Your Writing Portfolio Should Be the Most Beautiful Store in Town

How to treat all your articles as products from an outstanding store.

Death, in that unlikely place, could have come in many ways. Jon Flanagan could not resist the splendor of that reservoir of memories. Yet, nothing could have prepared him for such a wild fate.

Jon went to the grocery store. He woke up that morning with a strange feeling. Something in his stomach told him a bizarre event was about to happen. His decades of experience as a criminal investigator instigate him to be careful.

The store was a no-man's-land with one ‘customer’ inside- only him. A young woman at the reception lifts her head to say a no-smile good morning. And then got back to her screen to do whatever she was doing.

A strange cold breeze entered his pants, running up his back to the back of his neck. He checked the parking lot and counted nine cars. Flanagan knew there were only four workers inside. Too many cars for the few workers.

Twelve years trying to find one of the most important secrets held by the most influential people on earth. He felt he was too close to give up.

Upon seeing Jon, an employee rushed to a sectional gate in the frozen section that gives access to the warehouse. Jon had raised his arm to ask the employee to come over. But he just ran away.

Flanagan quickens his pace and approaches the gate. He realizes that two pairs of eyes looked at him through a groove on the other side of the gate. And suddenly disappear. Jon hears the footsteps of the two individuals fleeing. Why are they running away? — asks Flanagan. He tries to find a quick way to get the gate up.

A crank was carelessly left on display. And the investigator quickly managed to raise the gate.

Inside, the cold continued to increase. Flanagan found all that very strange. He tightened his coat, removed the pistol, and left it close to his body. He sensed that out of nowhere, he could be close to something he had been looking for, for more than two decades.

He heard voices coming from the back of the warehouse. Everything there seemed fictitious. A powder-free, untidy, immaculately resplendent warehouse. It looked like a Hollywood movie set, not a working place.

Silently, Jon went close to the corner of the warehouse. An intense light came out from under a metallic door, almost silver. His hands start shaking. The moment of truth was about to happen.

In a quick move, Flanagan kicked the door. He stands the last few seconds of his life, contemplating what he aimed to find for too long. The Golden Portfolio was right in front of his eyes. Endless books from the most remarkable writers were right in front of him.

Before the deadly blow, an apparition appears behind a flash of light at the end of the corridor. It was the creator.

Hot blood runs down his head. In one of his last sighs, lying down, he sees the creator who approaches and whispers to him: Yes, Jon; it exists. The Golden Portfolio exists and must be preserved. At all costs. It has to endure forever and ever.

The Golden Portfolio?

It could be your portfolio. It could also be the beginning of a story — a thriller.

The Golden Portfolio was a product of my imagination.

Yet, it could also be my grocery store of articles, all neatly arranged on the right shelves. My golden portfolio could be the most desired creative portfolio in the world.

And so, I would have to create a fellowship to preserve it at all costs. To care for it. To embrace the journey as if it were the rarest preserved treasure.

A fellowship created between the real and the legendary.

That should be the way of thinking in your portfolio- a secret door hidden in an ordinary grocery store. The most important treasure to preserve. Something that contains the best you have been able to share. Your art. Your passion. Your secrets. Your genetic mark. No one else’s. Only yours, because you are unique.

Also unique is that particular article that changed one person’s life. Written by your hands. Created by your mind. Made with your expended time.

The influence that your words had on that particular reader, they no longer turn back. And he, the reader, will never be the same again.

Your words- never forget your words. They have the power to change. They can create whatever imaginable worlds you want.

And you have that power.

Change the world. Change the reader.

You are a creator.

Transform Your Portfolio Into an Unforgivable Treasure

If you thought that a few decades from now, all your articles would be archived in the most prestigious library in the world, I bet you would spend hours and hours returning from editing your pieces.

Being a creator is not knowing when the next masterpiece is going to be created. And whether that creation will come out of your hands. Not from any other writer.

And that is why being a creator, a writer, is so powerful. We never know when we will be touched by the divine.

The day where you found some special power you can’t explain- only then, you’ll feel that unique energy inside your body and soul. You sit down and start writing a few sentences — a few paragraphs. And then, somehow, it was created. The divine has turned your fingers into magic wands and your eyes in pieces of heaven.

The work appears from within you. It was there, always inside you, in an endless wait. Breathing the oxygen of humans like a different entity.

As in the grocery store, the divine falls asleep. It is kept by the fellowship as if it were a rare treasure. Every word, every sentence, every paragraph or article kept forever. Thus, those who come will read the pieces of wisdom and then, only then, will find the way to the future. It will be like a map drawn by ancestral trees — a rare treasure.

Your treasure.
