Your Writing Dynamics Lead To Real Creative Prosperity

Every thing you write, every clap you give, and every comment you post matters a lot

There is a powerful dynamic that happens on any platform where there are real humans doing the writing and interacting with others.

You are in control.

Wait, what?

That’s right. You are in control of what is happening with your content and with how you interact with your fellow writers on Medium.

This is a dynamic platform, full of talented writers, distinct personalities, motivated individuals, leaders, followers, promoters, businesses, world leaders, and all kinds of cool content creators.

But you remain in charge.

What does that mean?

You decide if you want to write something and share it with the world. You, alone, make that decision.

If you don’t feel like writing one day, you don’t have to do it. Presumably, there is no supervisor sending you messages to post a romantic poem or public policy critique. It’s your prerogative to decide if you want to publish or not to publish.

In another vein, you make the decisions as to which other writers you are going to follow, like, or post a comment. It’s up to you if you are going to highlight their work or support them at all, ever, if you decide that you do or do not want to do so.

That is what makes any platform dynamic because there is no pressure to do anything. It’s voluntary.

If you wake up one day and decide that you want to encourage or support only people named Wendy, you can do that. Alternatively, you could decide to clap or highlight only content that is about sports, or woodworking, or content written about fun-loving dolphins.

Your Content Decisions Matter

When you write and post content, you are making a choice regarding the subject matter of your work. That is up to you.

Your choices can pull or push people away from your content, but it is still your choice. You are in charge. Just you.

Over time, some writers are going to decide that they are going to write about what they feel like writing about, and that is awesome. You remain in charge.

If there are other people giving you guidance or suggestions about what or when you are going to write, that is another thing. If that works for you, then godspeed and more power to you.

It is the same thing when it comes to who you follow, like, promote or support. You are in charge of that and those dynamics are interesting, as they are in any social environment. It would be wonderful to see a complex interactive diagram or chart of the online social connections being made every day on Medium.

Your Friends

You find out who your friends are when circumstances change. Life taught me that more than a few times.

Cherish your writer friends and treat them well. Appreciate them for every ounce of effort or support that they give you. I know I appreciate others, even if I don’t give a hundred percent every day like I want to do so.

Remember, you are in charge. You, the writer, the dynamic content creator and very real master of words.

This is your house and you get to decide what you do, when you do it, who you support, and how much fun you are going to have every single day of the year.
