Your Thoughts Become Things. How Are You Doing With the Intentions You Set at the Start of the Year?
It’s time for your mid-year check in and reset.

Your thoughts become things.
Where are your thoughts about the intentions, vision, plans you set at the beginning of the year? Where are your thoughts about the life, work, health, relationships you wanted to manifest this year?
Your thoughts are so powerful.
Your intentions are so powerful.
Your thoughts and intentions become things.
Last week, a friend, and prior coaching client of mine, and I were taking a socially distanced, masked walk together, checking in with each other on our life, our work. Checking in with each other on our word of the year, our thoughts, our intentions for the year and what we were doing to reset.
She had abandoned her intentions. Because the world was so different.
Wait. What?!
She is so smart, so capable. She is a small business owner, an entrepreneur. She loves personal growth. I know her to be focused, excited to level up, grow, and thrive in her life and work. She is purpose driven. She has a vision of the life and work she’d love to create. She is ready to do the work.
She’s on this path. She knows the power of her thoughts.
But the world dynamics went crazy and she felt small, lost, in doubt.
I could hear her monkey mind at work here.
Have you been able to reframe, reset? Or, like my friend, have you thrown up your hands and fallen into the mindset that all intentions, visions, and plans are completely destroyed? That nothing is going how we thought it should?
Time for a Mid-year Check In
It’s mid-year now. Now is a great time to have a check-in and reset of your thoughts and intentions for the remainder of the year.
I promised to come up with some questions to send her, and use myself, as a tool to check in, reframe, reset.
Because the power of our thoughts and intentions is still working in our life, isn’t it?
For me, the power of intention is about creating a guiding direction. It’s about who you become on the way, how you live your life, and how you get shaped.
In other words, the real question right now is this: In the face of massive transition and uncertainty, how might intention still be at work in your world? How might it be shaping you?
This process involves a review of what has happened so far this year, what has expanded inside of you, and how your business has changed or is changing to meet the new state of the world.
And no, this is not about the most over-used word of this year: Pivot! This is simply about reminding yourself that giving up, living in drama, disengaging, numbing out, and any other manner of checking out is probably not going to be your best strategy in the face of the current situation.
In fact, if you have a business, you are here to serve people. That’s the whole point, right?
Then it stands to reason that your energy matters. Your intention matters. Your mindset matters. Your thoughts matter. And how you “do” you…matters.
The Check In Exercise
So, let’s check in with our intentions. Maybe reset our intentions, as needed, for the second half of 2020.
Ready? Here we go.
Step 1: Check In
Celebrate the ways your intentions, your vision allowed you to break out of old limiting beliefs
- In one or two sentences, my original intention for this year went something like this:
- If you had a word for the year, my word was/is:
- Three insights I’ve gained about myself, my business or the world since January are:
- Three things I am proud of myself for doing, being, creating or healing during this time are:
- One thing that no longer matters to me is:
- One thing that matters more to me now is:
- Knowing what I know now, how does (or doesn’t) my original intention still apply?
Step 2: Reframe
Release all the monkey mind storytelling and drama so you can continue to manifest the life and work you’d love to live
- If I’m being honest, what’s a story I’ve bought into or told myself during this time?
- If I saw disruptions as callings for my business or my soul to expand, in what three ways have I pivoted or expanded?
- If the world is heading for a “new normal” of uncertainty (and disruption), how might I be tempted to play small or shrink?
- What are three non-negotiable ways (habits, accountability, etc.) to proactively support myself so I can keep manifesting the life and work I’d love to live?
Step 3: Reset
Sometimes a change is in order!
- My intention for the second half of this year is:
- What word can I use to guide me in the second half of this year, to support this intention:
- By December 31 of this year, the following three things will be true:
Final Thoughts
My friend and I have both used these questions. We have really enjoyed the process of checking in. Personally, I really benefited from the self-awareness, reality check, and mindset reset this exercise created.
So, I needed to share it and encourage others to try it.
Enjoy your check in and reset. This is a time for yourself, to accept, release, and move forward without baggage.
Your thoughts become things.
Get yours right.
