Summary

The author of the article argues that the removal of the text editor from Medium's mobile app will lead to a better writing experience, more visibility for authors' bios, and an overall improvement in the quality of writing due to the superior functionality of the computer version.

Abstract

Medium's controversial decision to discontinue its text editor in the mobile app has been met with disappointment by many authors. However, the author of this article sees a silver lining, suggesting that writing on a laptop offers significant advantages over a smartphone, such as easier management of multiple resources and information. The change is expected to enhance the writing experience by allowing authors to work more efficiently with numerous browser tabs and the convenience of a larger screen. Additionally, the author points out that the mobile app's limitation in displaying author bios properly is a missed opportunity for writers to share important links and information, which the computer version rectifies. The article also encourages readers to subscribe for writing tips and support authors by engaging with their content and using features like "buy me a coffee" due to the author's inability to access funds because of the war in Ukraine.

Opinions

  • The author believes that writing on a laptop is superior to writing on a smartphone, especially for creating extensive articles that require referencing multiple sources.
  • The removal of the text editor from the Medium app is seen as beneficial for writers, as it will lead to better visibility of their bios and the information contained within them, such as donation links and social media profiles.
  • The author emphasizes that the computer version of Medium offers ultimate functionality, which is crucial for tasks like writing, promoting, marketing, SEO, and monetization strategies.
  • There is an opinion that the Medium community should support writers not only by reading but also by subscribing to their content and using alternative methods of support, like "buying a coffee," especially in times of hardship such as the war in Ukraine.

Your story will get better after text editor in the Medium app is dead!

think of the positive, not the negative!

Medium’s decision to drop the text editor function in the branded app has caused many authors to be unhappy.

I’m learning to look at unexpected negative events from a positive perspective. And here, in this controversial decision, I have found several positives that will help many of us become better writers than we are now and benefit from this decision!

Here they are

  1. better writing experience. I don’t know about you, but for me writing on a laptop has one important benefit.

It’s much more convenient to write large, solid articles on a laptop that require a lot of links from other resources as well as snippets from other texts (e.g., quotes).

Look at how many browser tabs I have open at once! It is much more convenient to use so much information on a laptop than on the screen of our little gadget.

A computer or laptop is designed for work. On a smartphone, such work turns into a brain hemorrhoid.

2. it benefits the writers themselves.

The point is that the mobile app struggled to display the bio while reading the story. We can put a lot of useful information in the bio.

From a donation link to a link to your own website, newsletter, social media, whatever!

That way more writers will see your information in the bio in front of their eyes!
