Your Path to Time and Financial Freedom Will Be Smoother If You Have an Abundance Mindset

It took me five years to actually believe it, but it’s true

I’ve been an online entrepreneur for five years, and I’ve come to learn that one of the most important things people who are killing it in the entrepreneur space have is the right mindset.

Contrary to popular belief, success in our connected world isn’t solely about algorithms or marketing strategies. It’s about the lens through which we view the world and our place within it.

You may have heard about two competing mindsets when it comes to money and resources in general.

One is called a scarcity mindset, the other is known as an abundance mindset.

Which one of these you hold will drastically impact the way you think about money and, as a result, influence the way you pursue money and what emotions you have in relation to it.

It’s often the case that the difference between writers who thrive and the ones that merely survive is what mindset they have.

It All Comes Back to Mindset

The scarcity and abundance mindsets are contrasting and conflicting outlooks on the availability of opportunities and resources.

People who have a scarcity mindset operate with a belief that there is limitation and lack. They believe there isn’t enough to go around. Everything in the world is finite, and we’re all competing for it.

In contrast, people with an abundance mindset see the world as ripe with resources and opportunity, and if they want some of it, they just need to go out and get some. It doesn’t matter how much they get, because there’s plenty left over for others.

Be honest. Which one are you?

Do you ever think that there probably aren’t enough people interested in reading your work for you to make any money?

Do you ever see the outrageous readership of other writers and feel like they must be the one percent, and there’s nothing left for you?

Do you think there’s too many people already doing what you want to do, so you’ll never find success doing it?

All of those are hauntings of a scarcity mindset. It’s the grim executioner of motivation and aspiration.

Be Quick or Be Dead

We need a way to kill the motivation killer. We can do it by switching mindsets. It’s simple, but it’s not easy.

Scarcity is a common mindset among people trying to succeed online, and the negative effects are typically compounded by fear of rejection and financial instability.

But there’s a way to fight the scarcity mindset when it threatens to take hold.

Use logic.

As my former business coach—who happens to be incredibly successful—once pointed out to me,

When the beliefs associated with the scarcity mindset are put to an objective, logical test… they crumble.

— Mr. Ben Burns from The Futur

You can use a three-question approach:

Is this true for everyone? Is this true in all cases? What evidence exists for scarcity in this particular situation?

If you seek to answer these questions objectively and honestly, you’ll (often) find that there isn’t much logical support to a scarcity mindset beyond your own feelings.

There is a Light at the End of the Tunnel, and It’s Not an Oncoming Train

It may be a struggle, but there is a way to fight for an abundance mindset. Once you have that, taking risks and trying to achieve what you want seem more possible than they used to.

Obstacles become opportunities to grow.

Rejections become opportunities to grow.

Not getting the results you wanted becomes an opportunity to grow, instead of being a confirmation to yourself of your failure.

I challenge you to blow as many holes in the scarcity mindset as you can and embrace the multitude of opportunities around us.

How are you going to start today?

Thank You
