THE ARTIST WITHIN

Your Mockery Will Never Stop Me From Honing My Craft

I am my craft, my craft is me

I am deeply dedicated to my craft.

Every night, I work into the wee hours of the night — honing my craft.

I’m an artisan, a visionary. My muse is the human essence. My materials? Some say my materials are crude. Not everyone can see the complex beauty hiding in simpler forms.

“Your work is tacky,” they mock. I continue to honor my craft.

“Take this filth out of our gallery!” they sneer. I press on.

“What the actual fuck? Security!” they cry. I forge on. I MUST.

My craft is my oxygen. I am always honing. Working. Cultivating. Crafting THE CRAFT.

My hands ache from my relentless need to master my craft. My eyes burn from sleepless nights in my studio.

Every evening, when the moon is high, I search for my muse. I gingerly tear the chosen page from the glossy publication.

I caress my Elmer’s glue.

I select two tiny pièces de résistance and affix them to the page. While the glue dries, I gaze in wonder as the humble piece transforms into brilliance.

The night’s work is done. The craft has been honed. The artiste must rest.

In the morning, I step outside to show my work to my mentor.

“Is that another Playboy Bunny with googly eyes?” Bill asks.

“Yes, isn’t she something?” I say proudly.

“She sure is, Kristen. She SURE is. Hey, I have another magazine here for ya in your pile of bills.”

I thank Bill and watch his mail truck disappear in the sunny haze. I open the magazine and flip through the glorious smut. But wait! This one has 3 muses on one page!

I will need 6 googly eyes tonight.

I scurry inside to call the gallery. My next craft will truly be something to behold.
