Your Energy Matters More Than You Might Think
What we focus on expands

Have you ever noticed how easily you create your luck?
For example, If you always complain and believe you can’t ever win, you’ll have a higher chance of experiencing unfortunate events. You’ll spill your tea, catch all red lights, run late to work, or break something.
On the other hand, if you believe you’re lucky and express gratitude for all the good stuff, you’ll have more goodness come your way.
You’ll run into an old friend who happens to have an excellent job offer or the perfect potential love interest. You’ll find the best parking space. Synchronicity is constant and you’ll feel like you’re in the flow of life. You get the gist.
I put it to the test all the time.
We all have those weeks that feel like graduate work, with one challenge after another. It only takes a few days to fall off the rails and plunge into darkness. Luckily, we know how to get ourselves out.
I’ve been there, done that. After a spiritual high for a couple of weeks, I felt my mood shift into downer mode. Everything irritated me and I started to complain, constantly snapping at my kids.
It’s natural to have highs and lows, and understandable to get a little moody under challenging circumstances. But I knew I was creating a downward spiral with my attitude.
Things started to fall apart.
A few months ago, I felt like everything was falling apart in succession. My overhead bathroom light intermittently turned off for a a week. My phone started acting up. Then one day, my key didn’t fit in my ignition. My bathroom smelled of cigarette smoke.
Nothing worked to get the key to start my car. The unraveling had begun, and I had reached my limit.I felt hopeless for a minute, then checked myself.
I decided to experiment with energy.
I purposely relaxed and focused on what was working. I thanked the WD40, my extra keys, and the resources I knew I had for repairs. I thanked the broken lock for happening now, so I can get it fixed before we traveled in Summer. Isn’t that an interesting coincidence that saved me future troubles?
I checked in with my new neighbor about the smoke, and she had just this once had a lit cigarette inside and wouldn’t do it again. We exchanged numbers for any future concerns. I was pleased that she was receptive to my boundaries.
If I don’t want it, I need to stop giving it any energy.
I purposely ignored my bathroom light and hoped for the best. Sometimes it turned on, other times it didn’t. I had another light in there. It wasn’t a big deal.
I notice when I ignore my phone’s issues, It works fine. So I also treated that like no big deal.
If I want something, I need to give that my attention and ignore the rest. The other stuff is made of fear and won’t serve me.
I called my mechanic, who connected me to a locksmith who can fix my ignition the following Monday. The place was nearby and only took a few hours to fix. I was grateful for finding a fast solution. I accepted that we were without transportation that weekend.
It’s a waste of energy to be angry with a man who behaves badly, just as it is to be angry with a car that won’t go. ~Bertrand Russell
Attitude is everything, and everything is energy.
When you change your attitude, you shift your energy. All you need to do is make a decision and follow through with action.
I instinctively wrote a gratitude list which reopened the door to more abundance.
I’m grateful my experiment worked again. An attitude shift made a positive difference in me and those around me.
I danced in my living room with my sweet angel, Noa. I snuggled her close, feeling the scratchiness of her “heart dress”, the favorite fancy dress her sister’s bestie gave her. I cried happy tears as I saw her smiling face, grateful for my littlest little, who brings me joy.
