Your Dryer Is Not Responsible For Your Missing Socks
You may be surprised by the results of my research
The other day, when I put a load of laundry in the dryer it came back with an odd sock.
I decided that it was time to investigate and proceeded to conduct experiments to determine what was happening.
The first experiment was to determine how common the problem was.
I took 12 pair of socks and I washed and dried them 10 times then I counted the socks.
I started out with 24 socks and after 10 washings I had 21 socks left. From this I arrived at the hypotheses that a sock went missing once every 3 loads.
This is of course only a hypotheses. Definitive proof would require a much larger population. I purchase 10 additional dryers and washing machines and proceed to redo the experiment. 120 pair of socks and 100 repetitions later. I checked the results.
A few days earlier I had 264 socks I now had 231. While I was washing the 240 socks nothing happened to the 21 socks from the previous experiment. It was only during the experimental washings that socks disappeared.
I proceeded to dismantle the 11 dryers. I took out every screw and every bolt and examine the pile of metal carefully and found no socks.
I bought more dryers and hired a team of security experts to guard the dryers while I conducte another experiment.
This time I wanted to determine if it was the right socks or the left socks that were disappearing. I pinned labels marked right or left on each sock and rewashed them 100 times.
During the entire time 4 heavily armed security guards watched every step of the procedure.
Then I did the final tally I started with 115 left socks and 116 right socks. I now had 115 left socks and 39 right socks. 77 right socks were gone.
There is only one inescapable conclusion. The socks were not in the dryer and the security guards verified that no socks that went into the dryer were removed prior to the tally.
Therefore the only conclusion is that we did not put 231 socks into the dryer. We put 154 socks into the dryer.
It is your washing machine that is responsible for your missing socks.
