Summary

The author mistakenly booked movie tickets for a multiplex in Noida instead of the intended one in Connaught Place due to a mix-up with the mall names and the shared brand of the multiplexes, leading to a missed movie but an enjoyable time at a cafe.

Abstract

The author recounts an experience where they unintentionally booked movie tickets for a multiplex in Noida, believing it to be the one in Connaught Place. This confusion arose from the mall's name being mistaken for the multiplex's location and the fact that both multiplexes were under the same brand, Inox. Despite the error, the author chose not to inform their friend, who was supposed to meet at Connaught Place, fearing they wouldn't make it in time to the correct location in Noida. Instead of attending the movie, they spent a pleasant time at a cafe, reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the human brain which can lead to such absurd situations.

Opinions

  • The author acknowledges the brain's tendency to make illogical connections, as seen in the mix-up between the mall and multiplex names.
  • There is an element of self-deprecating humor in the author's tone, as they reflect on the absurdity of their actions despite being sober and rational.
  • The author seems to value friendship and a good experience over the initial plan, as they chose to have a good time with their friend at a cafe instead of stressing over the ticket mix-up.
  • There is a sense of wonder and acceptance regarding the brain's unpredictability, with the author recognizing that even they can be fooled by their own mind.

Your brain can fool you

Not the multiplex I thought it was

Your brain is funny because it does things that, in hindsight, are absurd. So, I booked tickets for a movie at a multiplex, which wasn’t the multiplex that I thought it was while booking the tickets.

It was like when I was booking tickets, I thought it was Multiplex A, but after booking tickets, I realized it wasn’t Multiplex A but a different multiplex.

So, why would I do something as absurd as that? Let me assure you, I wasn’t high or hypnotized, yet I managed to do what usually people not in their senses would do.

The name was the problem. I mistook the name of the mall for the name of the place. I thought the mall was located in Connouaght Place, and since both the multiplexes were Inox, and I knew an Inox multiplex at Connouaght Place, my brain went with the idea it was the Inox at Connouaght Place. But it turned out to be Inox at Noida.

The multiplex I had booked tickets for was in Noida and not in Connaught Place, and as my friend was also accompanying me for the movie that was in two hours, I never told my friend about the ticket fiasco.

We were supposed to meet at Connaught Place and go to the movie.

Why didn’t I tell him? He was living on the opposite end from where the multiplex was, and even if he had started as soon as I told him about the ticket craziness, I doubt he would have been able to make it in time for the movie.

So we missed the movie but had a nice time at a cafe with great food.

The brain is funny because it acts in the most unpredictable ways in different situations. You could be fooled by your own brain.
