Your Best Guess Is Your Best Option For Success
What are you waiting for?
Most of us like to have a plan and set expectations for the likely outcome.
Our plan can seem straight forward at the beginning. Then, all of a sudden, it’s not.
If you are like me, that can now be an everyday experience.
What is a person to do?
Some days you just need to go with your best guess.
When the present is uncertain, you have to make choices and execute plans that place you in uncomfortable territory. Being uncomfortable is not where we like to be, but some days it is where we must be.
Lesson to Learn
Being uncomfortable is not likely to become comfortable.
Some days will be full of uncertainty — and more of those days are in our lives than ever before. Because our situation is very different, it may cause us to pause more than we used to.
Pausing can be useful — as long as it is not for too long. Our situations still require actions and outcomes.
We will need to move forward even if we feel we are not quite ready yet.
Feel uncomfortable, make your best decision, and get going. You can only make real-time course corrections if you are actually on the course.
Answer for Me
These days, I spend a lot of time in uncharted territory. I like the map and prefer a guide. I want to know what to expect. Who doesn’t?
However, more and more days involve going with my best guess. No map exists, and no one can guide me.
This is when I must smile, resolve to move forward, and course-correct as I go. It certainly makes for an interesting day. It can also make for sleepless nights.
And yet, I get to look back and see what is working and what isn’t. Then, I get to acknowledge a change is required and set off to do so.
I need to remind myself that I, too, am only human.
Action
Take action today despite being uncomfortable.
It can be easy to get caught in a web of inaction during times of uncertainty.
Take a step forward, even if it’s small.
Find a colleague or friend to share your dilemma with. Even if they don’t have the answer, they can listen to you, and it will help you clarify the question.
Sometimes we have the answer — we just don’t know it yet. Find a partial solution so you can start.
Don’t let perfection get in the way.
Daily Habit
Let your mind acknowledge uncomfortable situations — then move forward.
Pick a first step — as small as it needs to be. Move forward today.
Do whatever it takes to gain even a little bit more clarity. Movement today will give you confidence so that you can move again tomorrow.
A thousand steps start with one taken today — and each day ahead.
Celebrate even your smallest victories because any progress, even when we need to course-correct, is still progress.
