Your Belly is Full
A Poem
When your belly is full…do you sit back relax and rest? Great for you, but what am I to do?
I am here, not far off from you. You may have heard about me, I am bright and beautiful, but my years are few.
You have seen my image across your screen…desperate eyes, a bloated belly, a flash in your time.
I too want to live. I want to thrive. But, my heart beats slow today…I am about to go. I am about to die.
So next time your belly is full, please think of me… Perhaps some day I too will feel full and set free.
Author’s note: According to Children’s Hunger Relief Fund, every 10 seconds a child dies from malnutrition and hunger. Thousands under the age 5 never make it. Although modern technology has made many advancements, it is a crime that one child in a world with so much should ever die of hunger. Think about this next time your belly is full.
