“Your Audience Needs to Scroll All the Way to the Very Bottom of the Page”
Policy is confirmed TODAY by Medium User Services

Medium writers, do your readers scroll all the way to the very bottom of the page?
Only then do you —
- get credit for a “read” 💹
A personal note
Sometimes my pieces get lots of claps and comments, but fewer reads. Medium User Services has confirmed that —
In order to trigger a read, your audience needs to scroll all the way to the very bottom of the page. If you have a large footer, it is possible that your reader will not scroll all the way past that to trigger the read.
Thanks, Andy User Services

You may want to reconsider if you’re—
- embedding box links (such as referral links) at the end that readers don’t scroll past
- embedding long videos, especially at the end, that readers don’t finish
- including a copyright notice, which is not required (and which may not stop poachers)
- not finishing strong.
Bonus Tip — If you’re not tracking your reads versus claps and comments, you may want to START NOW
Thank you for reading and scrolling to the end. 🙏🏻 It’s good karma.
