The year: 1961 The place: Switzerland Abe was 15 and never forgot the scene on that June day. First, he heard his mother cry out “The young guy died today!” People everywhere were visibly upset, wondering whose son she was talking about, wanting more details.

All day, Abe wondered who was the young guy — and why was his mother so upset?

It didn’t occur to Abe that Mom was talking about Dr. Carl Jung, with whom she had been researching and learning from the past ten years.

Finally, Abe realized the 85-year-old dead man wasn’t young after all.

This is part of the Daily Drabble Journey, with Nancy Oglesby and others, through Fiction Shorts. If you’re not familiar with a Drabble, they are fiction short stories, consisting of exactly 100 words (in the body of the story). Each day, Nancy provides us with one unique word that needs to be included.
