You’ll Have More Money But It Won’t Go As Far
Why Raising The Minimum Wage Will Hurt You

I’ve seen it happen every time. Everyone is clamoring to raise the minimum wage. This time they want it doubled. It is going to be a disaster if it ever happens. It surprises me that more people cannot put two and two together and make four.
Here’s what will happen if they double the minimum wage.
Right away, some people will have the hours they work cut back while they will fire others. Why? Because businesses want to make money, not lose it. Companies will cut costs to bring in the same amount of revenue as before.
The easiest way to cut costs will be to cut back on what they pay their employees. So, employees working 40-hour weeks will have their hours cut, and employees already working part-time will probably lose their jobs. No business will let a wage hike take a bite out of their bottom line.
People who previously made more than the minimum wage will now be upset. They will all want a raise because it’s not fair that they worked as hard as they did to lose out because of the rise in the minimum wage. My brother, who works as a transmission specialist, says if they get a raise, he better get one too. So, once again, companies will feel they need to protect that bottom line. Now the prices of everything will go up. Everything you buy will cost more.
Now your heating and electric bills will increase and so will your rent. The utility companies and your landlord want to stay ahead too. If you own a home, you might be able to pay your mortgage, but who knows? You didn’t think it would stop with just the things you buy, did you? Usually, the cost of living will be higher than it was before the rise in the minimum wage.
What we end up with is everyone is at the same level they were before or in a worse situation. People who lost their jobs might not find a new job because fewer jobs will be available.
Where do they end up? On the street? Shoplifting to feed themselves and their kids if they have kids?
Just think about how prices are climbing up now because gas prices are growing by leaps and bounds. What would it be like if the minimum wage also shot up?
The gas prices rise, so does the cost of living. The minimum wage rises so does the cost of living. It’s a vicious cycle, and it never ends.
