You Were Born With Divine Essence, But You May Have Forgotten
Spiritual Amnesia can be cured when you remember who you are

Every person ever born has it. No one was missed. Freedom arrives when you wake up and discover Divine Essence.
You have been taught to find your meaning from the outside, the events, people, and places that make up your world. Your success is measured by data, numbers, and quantitative analysis. Your value is measured by outer indices of job, social status, family, and possessions.
When the numbers turn red or things didn’t go as planned, you become judgmental, either berating yourself or blaming others.
And in the quest for validation, spiritual amnesia develops.
You forget that your value and worth are already established because you have the gift of Divine Essence.
An Old Sioux Legend
In ancient times, the Creator wanted to hide something from the humans until they were ready to see it. He gathered all the other creators of creation to ask for their advice.
The eagle said, “Give it to me and I will take it to the highest mountain in all the land.” The Creator said, “No, one day they will conquer the mountain and find it.”
The salmon said, “Leave it with me and I will hide it at the very bottom of the ocean.” The Creator said, “No, for humans are explorers at heart, and one day they will go there too.”
The buffalo said, “I will take it and bury it in the very heart of the great plains.” But the Creator said, “No, for one day even the skin of the earth will be ripped open and they will find it there.”
The creatures of creation were stumped, but then an old blind mole spoke up. “Why don’t you put it inside of them — that’s the very last place they’ll look.”
The Creator said, “It is done.”
Notice that this story doesn’t define what was hidden. Notice that none of the animals questioned the Creator about what to hide, because they already knew.
It’s humans who don’t have a clue.
It’s So Simple It Gets Overlooked
Human are complicated, frustrating, stubborn, and egotistical. We have been given the gifts of imagination and creative thought, but we don’t know how to use these gifts to benefit ourselves and those around us.
We tend to focus on doing first, then having, then being.
The problem with this approach is that the ego - that separate sense of self — takes over and directs your actions. Listen to the ego’s voice and you quickly fall into spiritual amnesia. The ego is afraid of the truth of you — that you were born with Divine Essence that establishes your worth as a human being.
Turn away from the ego’s incessant chatter and turn toward that quiet space inside that waits patiently for your attention. That is the space where you meet Divine Essence and know that you are home.
The moment you become aware of the ego in you, it is strictly speaking no longer the ego, but just an old, conditioned mind-pattern. Ego implies unawareness. Awareness and ego cannot coexist. — Eckhart Tolle
Life Vibrates Through You When You Wake Up

I had a moment of clarity when I boarded a plane. I had just finished an intensive retreat and my consciousness was wide open. When I turned the corner and looked down the length of the tube that was filled with people, I had this thought: “I wonder who is awake to their spirituality?”
As I walked down the aisle to my seat, 99% of the other passengers were looking at their phone, talking to another person, or had their eyes closed. It wasn’t until I passed Row 18 that I found one person who was awake.
Our eyes locked and she smiled slightly, nodding as I passed by. I felt the jolt of energy from our shared connection, and I knew that I was living from a new level of awareness. My ego was quiet and there was no judgment of myself or others as I sat down towards the tail section of the plane.
I felt life’s energy move through me and I was at peace the entire trip.
Before this retreat, I would have been irritated about having to sit in the back of the plane. I would have felt angry at myself for not arriving earlier. If I had been caught in the churning of ego thoughts, I never would have connected with the woman in Row 18. I would have been stuck in blame and shame, not the lovely energy of connection. I would have also played the victim role, believing that life was happening to me.
The trick is to observe your ego and realize that it isn’t you.
How to wake up from Spiritual Amnesia
You have full access to inner wisdom and intuition. As you open your awareness to your divinity, the ego quiets and your consciousness expands.
One way to quiet the ego is with a daily practice of meditation. I have meditated daily for more than three years, and the changes in my life are too numerous to count.
Peace. Joy. Acceptance. Love.
These are just a few of the states of being I experience as I move about my day. I know that I can access my own wisdom whenever I want, because all I have to do is pause, breathe deeply, and ask Divine Essence. I sit quietly and my mind is still as I wait for the answer.
It always comes.
There is comfort and security knowing that I no longer have to prove myself, validate my worth, or strive for more. I am all I need, because Divine Essence actively guides my thoughts, words, and actions.
Instead of doing first, I am being. I allow being to inform my doing, and whatever I have is wonderful.
Remember who you are, and you will discover the freedom to be yourself.
