You, Too, Can Stand Out on Medium

We all want to stand out in whatever we do and in this case, we want to stand out in Medium. Although it’s not rocket science, it still takes diligence, focus, and practice. Here are ten tips to help you stand out on Medium.
- Write Well.
It can be a real turn-off if you constantly misspell your words or use poor grammar. Use grammarly.com to ensure both your grammar and spelling are correct.
2. Have an image.
Jennifer Geer has written about the problems around the use of images. Specifically about not giving credit where credit is due, which makes you liable for lawsuits.
The other prevalent issue is that some writers fail to include an image in their articles. Capture your readers with a great photo.
3. Write consistently.
Srinivas Rao exemplifies this. There is no other way around it; consistency is king! In all endeavors, including writing for Medium.com
4. Be authentic.
Being authentic may seem hard at first because we’re inundated with a lot of the same dribble. But sooner or later, we’ll hear your unique voice, so keep using it. I enjoy reading David Ferrers. His voice is unique, yet he talks about many popular subjects.
4. Use shorter sentences.
People are easily distracted. Don’t write long-winded sentences if you want to keep your reader’s attention.
5. Write about what you know.
You may not be an expert on a particular subject but write what on topics you’re most familiar with. David Gerken is a guru when it comes to meditation and mindfulness. If coding is your thing, read Kate Marie Lewis. Her articles make it sound like a lot of fun!
6. Use proper capitalization.
There is a wide range of writing styles. Please become familiar with one that you prefer and use it consistently.
7. Schedule a regular time to write
Find a time of the day that’s most suitable for you to write well, without distractions. Keep to the same time each day.
8. Edit before publishing.
After completing an article, check for errors twice or three times. Beyond that, check for consistency in your voice within the story. Have you organized your ideas to make them easy to understand? Good writing is rewriting.
9. Be open to criticism.
Get their feedback if you can get others to read your writing before you publish. If you don’t have anyone to read your articles before they are published, be open to criticism from your readers.
10. Establish relationships with other writers.
Reciprocity is the name of the game! Read, comment, clap and affirm other writers. Read a lot, comment regularly, and clap honestly! Everyone wants to be appreciated. Your earnings on Medium are derived from views by other Medium subscribers and writers. If you want to stand out, make it a habit to notice other great writers.
