It acknowledges the common human experience of making numerous decisions daily, some of which we come to regret. By doing so, we can free ourselves from the constraints of past mistakes and missed chances, allowing us to make more empowered decisions in the present. The article encourages readers to embrace a mantra that repositions the past as a source of learning rather than a determinant of the future, advocating for the closure of the past to prevent it from siphoning energy, time, and space from the present. What determines our future

You Sure Know the Hard Choices You Must Make; I’ll Help You Get There

Something is holding you back; I know what it is

Life’s all about choices

The choices made by others affect and infect us. Then there are our own choices we made. Do we own them or regret we ever decided the way we did? But wait, there is a choice you should make but don’t. What’s keeps the brakes locked?

Inc. tells us the average adult makes 35,000 decisions a day. Whew, no wonder I’m tired. Thankfully most of the thirty-five thousand are automatic. Like, should I use her toothbrush or mine? We know, don’t we? Some of the choices add adventure. There are two ways to the workplace, one, the expressway, the other the back roads. Think I’ll dive the back roads today. You see, some choices add spice to our lives with little downside. That’s okay.

It’s the big life-changing choice needing our attention

We keep looking the other way. We ignore making a decision hoping someone else will decide. Or, a snowstorm will hit with twenty-two inches of snow, giving us two more days to think. Are you happy living by chance? I know what’s holding you back. Are you ready to face it?

It’s what you did in your PAST

You did a lot of stupid things when you were a teenager. You married in the heat of passion, and your marriage went down in flames. You got angry and quit a job with a two-minute notice. I could go on and on. The flub-ups, the mess-ups, and the downright stupid mistakes in your past.

You know what, I have past regrets joining me with millions of others. Face it, we all have a past, and no one has a pristine one either.

It’s what you didn’t do in your past

Your past is not only filled with what you did that sticks to you. But it’s the opportunities you didn’t take but now realize they were golden. You procrastinated, and the chance of a lifetime was gone. It’s the trip you didn’t take. The girl or young man you walked away from and now regret.

I agree other events or circumstances are holding you back from making the hard choice. But, I submit your past has a tenacious grip on your thought process. I faced tough decisions because of the poor decisions I made in the past. But how did I move beyond what happened or didn’t happen? Thirteen words changed everything for me.

What do we do about our PAST

I have a mantra I put into words years ago; it changed my life. It will change your life too. Here it is;

“The past is not a prophet, at best; it is only a teacher.” Richard

In the financial markets, past performance doesn’t guarantee future profits. It’s true in life, our past life doesn’t determine our present or our future.

You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on them. You don’t let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space. Johnny Cash. (My emphasis)

This tip unlocks the past from your future

Your past is not a prophet prophesying where you’re going in life.

You do have a teacher, though.

Let that sink in.

Thanks, Richard
