You Still Have Time To Succeed

Don’t you worry, child, you’re doing great!

Success has not passed you by. It doesn’t matter who you are, your age, your background, or the expectations anyone has placed on you. Success is just around the corner, you still have time to achieve everything.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” — George Elliot

I know you’re doing your incredible best, and that’s all you need. Success will come when it has to. If you can dream it, you can do it. Don’t lose your patience, hold tight onto that dream. If you keep walking towards your goal, I promise you’ll eventually reach it.

If you don’t believe me, take inspiration from these incredible people who found success later in life. And what is ‘later in life’, anyway?

Samuel L. Jackson

Yup. Even when Sam Jackson got his first role back in 1968 on Planet of the Apes, and even though he has been acting non-stop, he didn’t get the recognition he was looking for until his 1991 role on Jungle Fever.

We are talking about a man who followed his dreams for over two decades. A man who was highly insecure about himself as he used to stutter, someone who fell on drugs and alcohol because of the enormous pressure he placed over himself.

He was 43 years old when he got his big break and look how far he’s come to this day. With perseverance, ambition, and a little love from his friends, he did it. And he did it great.

Julia Child

If you’re from the United States, I bet you know this woman. One of the original celebrity chefs, and a revolutionary of the cuisine at home, she’s an icon of television and recipes.

Julia joined the Office of Strategic Services during WWII and worked as a top-secret researcher. She was the one who solved the problem of too many underwater explosives being set by curious sharks, as she came out with a shark repellent. Later, she worked most of her life in advertising, until she and her husband had to move to Paris, where she learned to cook; and fell in love with it.

She was so good and so passionate about cooking that she wrote a 726-page book called Mastering the Art of French Cooking, which became a best-seller and a subject of critical acclaim. She was 50 years old.

Following this success, she was offered a column in The Boston Globe, and her own TV show. During her life, she published over twenty books and is remembered as the savior of American households.

Stan Lee

At the eternal age of 95, Stan Lee is considered the godfather of Marvel Comics, and a master of storytelling. The universe he created is so vast that no one can deny how talented he was.

With the creation of the Fantastic Four, Stan Lee and co-creator Jack Kirby led a revolution in how comics and superheroes were created. He crafted flawed superheroes that would feel more real and personal to the audience. This complexity and depth in his characters and stories attracted many people beyond the average kid.

However, this didn’t happen until he was almost 40 years old. His boss asked him to create something to compete against DC’s new super-team. After contemplating quitting this creative project, his wife suggested he should ‘experiment with stories he preferred’. Well, it turned out great.

J.K. Rowling

Probably the most successful writer of our time. Born in 1965, she didn’t start working on the Harry Potter series until 1990, at the age of 25. However, her mother’s death left her devastated and unwilling to keep creating. She moved to Portugal hoping to get a breath of fresh air, but she ended up having a failed marriage and a daughter to raise alone.

When she got back home, she had nothing. Jobless, poor and depressed, she poured all her energy into the two things she loved the most: her daughter and her stories. After finishing the first three chapters of the first book, she pitched them to different publishers, and all of them said no.

However, she found her chance with Bloomsbury Publishing, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was published on June 26 of 1997. She was 32 years old.

After that, Rowling became a household name. Her famous series has earned over $400 million in book sales, not to mention all the money that movie adaptations and sponsorships have made. She’s the first female author to become a millionaire.

Final Thoughts

It’s okay if you’re eager to find success. It’s perfectly fine if you’re working extra hard to make it happen soon. However, it’s not okay to think you’re running out of time. You are capable of many, many extraordinary things. And the recognition for all of them is going to reach you, eventually.

Keep working on your craft. Success is coming your way.
