You Should Quit Your Job and Go Freelance
Breaking Free
I’ve told myself my day job will be temporary for years. It’s probably the reason why I haven’t quit yet. One day, though, my boss will inevitably discover I’m a full-time ninja. Or maybe he’ll find out that I’ve been moonlighting as a diamond smuggler for years, both of which are true. When he does discover it all and finally realizes that his employee has been double dipping in their off hours, there will be no way to keep me around anymore. Since this is always on my mind, let’s jump into this article and explore why you should quit your job and become a full-time freelancer.
Do you ever feel like you’re trapped in a creative rut?
It’s normal to feel that way. Many of us get stuck in patterns of behavior and thinking that are not conducive to our long-term happiness or success. As a result, we feel trapped by our habits and routines, a state I call “the creative rut.”
The good news is that getting out of your rut is possible if you know how. And there are ways to climb out of this dark place. When I was stuck in mine, I decided to start freelancing full-time instead of working at my day job as an editor at an online magazine which didn’t allow me much room for creativity. While this move was initially challenging, I had yet to learn how profitable freelance work could be. It paid off big time when I could start my business doing what I love most, writing.
It’s time to get out.
If you have been doing the same thing for a long time or want to try something new, then freelancing might be for you. If your job is boring and unfulfilling, and no money can make up for that, then it’s time to quit. The best part about freelancing is that it allows people who are passionate about their work an opportunity to do what they love while making money at the same time.
You have a fresh perspective.
You’re not tied down to a particular way of doing things so that you can see the world from an entirely different angle. This can make you more innovative and willing to try new things. You might even take risks others wouldn’t consider and learn from them.
You know what you want.
You’re a grown-up, and you know what you want. You know what your goals are and how far away they are. You also understand that if you don’t make a move now, those goals will never be met.
These are all things that the future self of a freelancer has figured out and then acted upon with enthusiasm. Freelance life is not for everyone, and there are many reasons why, but if it’s right for YOU, go for it.
You have the motivation to make things happen.
As an employee, you’re just one small cog in a giant machine. You can simultaneously be the whole engine and steering wheel as a freelancer. You get to decide what projects and clients are worth your time and which aren’t. You also get more fulfilled by doing work that fulfills others, whether helping someone clean their house or making them laugh.
Freelance work is a great way to expand your experiences and skills.
