It’s an era of ‘The Great Resignation.’ 4.4 million people quit their jobs as the pandemic ends. If you still have a job, you’re lucky. If not, you might be thinking of leaving your job. But before you quit your job, read this blog till the end.

Quit your job if:

  • You’re not being appreciated.
  • You’re not growing.
  • You’re working in a toxic environment.
  • You’re working off-hours without reward or appreciation.
  • Your ideas are rejected.
  • There is zero work-life balance.
  • The work is affecting your health.
  • There is too much work politics.
  • You are not enjoying your job.

Life is too short to work with no peace. If there is no mental peace in your job, quit and find another one. If you think you lack the skills, develop them and apply for another job.

On average, people spend more than half of their lives at their jobs. Don’t waste those previous years working for a company you don’t love.

Here is what you can do if you don’t want to quit your job

If you’re fed up with your job but cannot quit right away, here is how you can survive till you’re hired by a new firm.

Develop a new skill

The world is moving forward at an alarming rate. If you waste two days watching Netflix, your co-worker might invest those 48 hours building skills and get a promotion.

Don’t distract yourself from things that don’t add value to your professional profile. If you’re doing something that helps in building your life, good; if not, switch to some other thing.

Once you’ve acquired a new skill, you can ask for a promotion or a change in manager.

Don’t react, respond

Maybe you’re working in a toxic environment, and you cannot quit immediately. So, you need to develop a mindset to deal with those people.

Peter Bregman, in his best-selling book, 18-Minutes, talks about an amazing theory.

Normally, when something happens, we react to it, and there are consequences. Peter talks about responding instead of reacting.

Let me explain. If an employee says some abusive words (the situation), you can react with more abusive words, but what will be the outcome? Now imagine, thinking about what outcome do you want? You don’t want a fight. So, instead of reacting, respond with silence. That’s it.

Change the way you see things and your perspective about life will change.

Don’t take work home

You are working a 9-hour shift which is enough for work. Don’t take any work home. Go home and relax. The rest of the work can be done tomorrow.

And even if the boss gives you work, deny lightly because you’re being paid for 9-hours, not anything more.

Stop comparing yourself with others

Everyone is unique. People consume data differently. The way you train your brain shapes your personality.

Stop comparing yourself with others. You are different. You’re special. If you have a skill, work hard to polish it. No one can steal your experiences. Your stories create your personality. Adopt a positive mentality. Stay grateful for whatever you have. The more grateful you feel, the more you’ll be given.
