You Say You Want A Resolution — Listen To More Music In 2022!

Strive to listen to musicians or genres you’re unfamiliar with

Are you a music lover?

If so, are there some music artists you’ve always been curious about listening to more of, but you’ve never gotten around to it for one reason or another?

Or do you ever tell yourself things like, “Hey, it’s great that all I listen to is country music, but maybe I should try out some jazz music for a change?”

If so, I propose the following thing for you to resolve trying in 2022:

Listen to a lot of music you’re unfamiliar with!

Why not?

You might be an AC/DC fan now who has never considered diving into the works of Taylor Swift, but who knows how you might feel after listening to a few of her albums?

Or you could be someone who has always said they’ve hated rap music, but you’ve actually listened to very little of it. Who knows? You might end up being surprised that you fall in love with it after hearing a lot more of it.

Also, if you’re a writer in addition to being a music lover, this kind of resolution may lead you to a lot of great new things to write about here on Medium (or elsewhere.)

Personally, my big resolution for 2022 is to dive heavily into the music of Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen. I’ve owned a few albums from each of them over the years, but I’m unfamiliar with the majority of their music.

My plan is to start with the first albums from both Neil and Bruce. I’ll listen to them a few times each and then write reviews and post them here on Medium.

I’ll keep going until I make my way through all of their albums. NOTE: My plan right now is to listen to and review just their studio albums, but I may amend things later and also include their live albums. However, between both artists, I’ve got approximately 60 albums to listen to and write about in 2022. I just may not be able to get to their live albums too.

But who knows? Maybe I will!

I think this will be a very fun resolution for myself for the new year.

I bet it could be an enjoyable resolution for you too!

If you hate what you choose to try out, then just switch to something else you’re unfamiliar with.

Then share (or don’t share) your experiences with the new music you’ve explored. Personally, I always love hearing about music that other people love, so I’d be very curious to read what you write about it. I might then end up loving it too.

Woohoo!

What’s the worst-case scenario for all of us trying this resolution? We end up listening to a lot of music?

That doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

Heck no!

Who wants to join me in this music challenge for 2022? Let’s resolve to jam to new music in the new year!

How about you cool kids? Paul Combs, Terry Barr, Kevin Alexander, Jessie Waddell, Angelina Der Arakelian, David Acaster, Alex Markham, B. C. Heneghan, Christine Schoenwald, Steffany Ritchie, Chris Zappa, If Ever You’re Listening, Brandy Niremburk, L Burton, Zsófia Vera

Regardless of all of the above — Happy 2022 to all who are reading this. Enjoy!
