You Only Need 2 Stories About Yourself to Market. Seriously!

What I’ve learned for 3 years as a business owner

Many people believe that for you to be a successful business person you either need to have a powerful background or a wonderful success story to do well in the business.

In reality, you don’t need any of that.

You see, as a business owner, you only truly need two things about yourself to market. Your life and what this business helped. It’s that simple!

Story №1— Why did you create XYZ Company?

This is a question you will often get asked all the time and you need to come up with a good enough story to share with your audience. This is a critical point for all business owners because a story can determine whether you have the heart for the business.

Honestly, the story can be as bullshit as I want to make people laugh more or I want to let more people see the world. But ultimately the story has to be like a big dream that you want to achieve. Like what they always say:

Reach for the Moon, even if you fall short, you’ll still land among the stars

Never Sell this Story

Can you guess what stories you should never share?

I created this business because I see many user will use it and we can potentially make a lot of money from it.

To a seasoned investor or a business owner, the worst kind of people you deal with are sharks looking to make only the dollar bill without having the passion to help someone. And this is the main reason most employee-turn-business-owners failed at.

Yes, money is important for the survivorship of a company but having real use case outweighs the dollar over the company's head. A company should first and foremost be able to comprehend the customer and catered to their needs and wants. This is how a good business is formed.

Take for example companies like Facebook and Snapchat, these two online social media companies spent years not trying to make much money out of their business. Instead, they only cared about the product and how they can further improve to help their user. With this mindset, over time the company will surely turn a profit and become a huge money maker.

Story №2 — A Powerful Personal Story

There are always struggles and tough times in your life. Learn to craft a speech about it and practice it in your head all the time because this story will often be used for many years to come and all you have to do is update it yearly.

And if you don’t have it, then you shouldn’t start a business because you will never be convicted enough to struggle hard for it.

Struggles Build Strong Mindset

If you look back 10 years ago and pull out your biggest FUD(fear, uncertainty, doubt)if you still have many of those problems. My guess is that you haven’t achieved much in life. But if you did overcome these obstacles, you’ll realize those FUD are what actually grow you to be a better person.

Use those successes to build and market your character. Whether it is insecurity, fear of heights, or simply bad at studying. We all have problems but it is the journey of overcoming adversity that makes it such as marketable story you need to learn to sell.

What I’ve learned over the years running a business

If you want your business to succeed, yes having these two stories is an important one for your company and the other about yourself.

A business is like a baby at the start that requires a lot of attention, only once you have fed it enough with time, effort and money. Only then will it start to grow and eventually pays you in dividend.

A personal story is as good as the success it produces, so take the time to build your character, learn from failure, and always find ways to market yourself. That way, your success becomes inevitable.
