You Only Become A Writer When You Say These 4 Words…
Owning your identity

A question for you
When do you become a writer?
Have you ever asked yourself that question?
Do you need to hit a milestone?
Perhaps publish a book or get some official recognition?
Can only bestselling authors call themselves writers?
I have a different viewpoint.
I believe you become a writer the day you brace yourself with courage and dare to say these four words:
“I am a writer”
Loud and clear, without hesitation.
We often minimize ourselves through language:
“I write for fun”
“I’m not really a writer”
“It’s just a hobby”
“It’s nothing”
And by doing that, we suffocate our dreams confining our identity to a small box.
If you want to write, own it.
Make it part of your identity, the “new you.”
When I started doing triathlons years ago, I avoided saying that I was a triathlete. Going into my first race, I felt like an imposter. Everyone else was a triathlete in my head except one competitor: me.
Then one day, I told myself,
“Own it. You are waking up in the dark to ride while people are out partying; you are swimming after work; you are running the roads, you are a triathlete.”
And by believing that I was a triathlete and acting as such, I became one.
The same thing happened with writing. When I published my first book, The Lemon Tree Mindset, I told people it was not really a book but a pilot book — whatever that means — and that I was not really an author.
Then I started practicing and embodying my new identity:
“I am a writer”
By learning to say those four words and saying them out loud, I became a writer and that’s when I started to grow my wings. I started to build my audience, published books, launched my newsletter, hosted a book signing, and became… a writer.
Empower yourself.
I want to hear you say those four words.
Try it, it’s a game-changer.
