You May Never Be Ready

A couple of years ago, I had the privilege to audition for Juilliard. To those who are not in the performing arts world, it’s the Harvard of orchestra, dance, acting, and play writes… So no biggie. Waiting for my audition in the corridor, I’ve never heard silence that loud! I could hear and feel my heart in my throat. It was that intense. To ease my nerves I started talking to the student that was helping organize the potential students, luckily she didn’t noticed me panicking because I faked my calm that well. So I asked her what is the most cherished lesson so far from the school. She looked at me with kind eyes and softly said, “You may never be ready, but you can always be prepared.”

My mind melted into a glittery slime! Where was this chick during every interview for a job I’ve ever had? Where was she during SAT season in high school!

Now, I have been blessed to put this to work every time I have something coming up. I let go of irrational fears and only control what I can. I learned to apply this to almost every endeavor. Some people are not ready to get interviewed to get into Harvard, but they can get straight A’s and have a bomb resume. You may not be ready to become a parent, but you can prepare by saving money, taking classes on child psychology so you won’t mess your kid up…

Is there something coming up in your life that is making you lose sleep over?

Can this be your new mantra?

It sure does help me focus on what is important.

P. S. I didn’t get into Juilliard…yet!
