You Made Me a Mother

Loving my body for what it has given me.

I often wonder, as I look in the mirror who is that old woman looking back at me…

stretch marks sagging skin floppy boobs stomach rolls

hair falling out knees getting worse but so easily I forget my current state is not a curse

Today, I’m compelled to say: thank you, body, for all your strength and wonder for you made me a mother

my story is etched in your skin and you held my greatest gifts within

stomach stretched beyond belief defying space love grew deep

power and strength brought forth creation pushing through pain a baby's cry, pure elation

nourishing new life with breasts full consistent and faithful to always supply more

crying babies rocked to sleep late at night small heads sleeping against heart beats shoulders aching, backs quaking even so, kept on loving

Today, I’m compelled to say: thank you, body, for all your strength and wonder for you made me a mother
