“You Have 0 Friends” Says HBO Max…Ouch!
As I curled up on the couch after a long day to binge watch my favorite shows, HBO Max greeted me with a cheerful notice:
"You Have 0 Friends."
Wow, talk about a cheap shot!
I know I'm not the most social butterfly, but does HBO really need to call me out like that? I felt like HBO Max was the judgy popular girl from high school who liked to point out everyone's insecurities. Excuse me HBO, but last I checked, watching TV alone in my PJs is self-care, not a character flaw!
In all seriousness though, that 0 friends tab hit me right in the feels.
I may not have a huge friend group, but I've got a few solid, quality friendships, and that's what matters.
Still, it did make me nostalgic for those carefree childhood days when making friends was as easy as asking,
"Wanna play tag?"
As adults, making and maintaining friendships takes real effort.
With busy work schedules, family obligations, and conflicting priorities, it's tough to keep up. The pandemic certainly didn't help either, reducing our social circles to tiny bubbles overnight.
So maybe I don't have hundreds of friends to fill up my feed with plans and parties.
But I've got all I need in my little tribe of loyal, supportive friends. And at the end of the day, that one good friend who's always there for you is worth more than 100 acquaintances.
I'll take depth over breadth any day.
Anyways, thanks for the reality check HBO Max, but I think the number of friends I have is just fine for me.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date with some Pizza Hut and a Harry Potter marathon.
