Pick Three Items to Survive
A hypothetical scenario leaves you wondering what you would pack in survival mode.
The End of The World as We Know It
Hypothetically, the pandemic was the end of civil engagement. A war of people breaks families and friends apart. The government, a hollow pit of despair. Nothing left to govern our ways, transport our goods, and it’s each man for themselves.
Travelling Extraordinary Distances
You catch word that there is a facility in Argentina, South America that if you get to, you will be a part of the new world order. Your mission is to arrive alive. You decide it is less dangerous to travel to South America than stay in the city of crime you're surrounded by. There still might be good people in the world. Not everyone you meet on your soon-to-be journey is out to rape or kill you. But there may be many that would try.
Equipped
Hypothetically, you are wearing suitable clothing for your travels, footwear etc. And you live near Canada. You know these things; you must hitch a ride or steal transport and fuel; it’s too far and dangerous to walk. You may encounter anything along the way. And you have to be smart.
You can’t carry too much with you; travelling that distance would inevitably be problematic with numerous items. So it’s decided you may choose three things that fit in your pocket or that you can quickly bring with you. It can only be three, even if it comes with multiple pieces like a tent. A tent does not qualify as an item because it has more than three pieces separately.
Example
In context, I will tell you the three things that I would choose as an example.
- A heavy-duty lightweight knife
- Lipstick
- A German Shepard
This should tell you a lot about me. To give you an idea of what I mean, think about the lipstick. You may at first think it’s because of appearance, and that could be true, but I can also use it to write messages, arrows, make sign markers on my travels; I could fake a wound or use it to seduce my way through a problem. That's not all either. I could use it to look more alive by blushing my cheeks or even use it for war paint. Multipurpose in its way.
The other items I will give a quick analysis; The German Shepard is the protector, with a heightened sense of smell and intelligence, unlike other breeds. I would be able to train the dog, to seek out food, train to sniff out medications, and food. It would be able to carry things for me, lick my wounds and provide companionship. You could even eat it out of desperation. The last option in parallel times!
In any regard, you might guess by this choice that I am a dog person, also that I care about personal safety. This form of the question is open for people to think on in their own time and ask themselves what they might really need? Could it be that 12 strand paracord belt with 25 features including but not limited to a flint stick and starter, LED light, whistle and other uses. That would be one item. But then maybe you couldn't bring away the indication marker.
It is an asset to dwell on questions like these. So in survival mode, we have pre-planned at least three things one might want to bring with them in an emergency scenario.
Better equip your family and friends with the knowledge that at least you will have thought through three items. Many people have service animals that act in part as an aid to their ability to live. Those people have a skill set to train an animal. If you are one of these people, living without your service dog would be impossible.
It seems satisfying to know that I may have an extra mouth to feed but my dog could assist in a variety of ways along my travels. Let me know in the comments what your three things would be. I will follow up with my thoughts.
