You Carry On
A Poem
When darkness gathers around you And in sleep, you belong But you have too much left to do You have to carry on
A living you must make For your loved ones But it’s tearing you apart You hide the pain inside you And you carry on
Each day is the day you believe There is something better out there To make your life worth living And so you carry on
Searching and dreaming and existing Whilst taking care of those you can And the will inside you is crushed But still, you carry on
Until the day finally arrives When you get your golden clock And you finally have time for you Without going to work
After a lifetime of taking care Of others in your life They’re gone, or moved, or left you Or run off with someone else
You sit alone in your quiet house All by yourself Looking at the four walls For what time you have left But still, you carry on
