You Cannot Pour From an Empty Cup

3 Self Care Tips For Mothers #Mother’s Day

I am the proud mother of two young adults. They keep me busy. They keep me sane.

Yesterday while I was making plans for today’s lunch, my daughter told me,

‘’Mom, You can take an off from cooking tomorrow.

We are planning something special for lunch.

Brother is ordering pineapple pastries without sugar for you.

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day.’’

This unexpected offer got me excited. My eyes welled up with tears of happiness. I was deeply touched when they told me they are also getting me pineapple pastries with less sugar. Thank you, sweethearts, for noticing I am consuming less sugar these days. Your love melts my struggles like dew drops on sunshine. Thanks for filling my heart with gratitude. Xo xo.

‘’ A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dates all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path ‘’ — Agatha Christie.

Motherhood changes our body mind and soul. Our body stretches and adapts to nurture the needs of a delicate precious soul.

Our mind broadens to accept all things good and bad for the happiness and growth of our children.

All mothers are fierce warriors when it comes to the safety and well-being of their children.

We start to love and give unconditionally.

Mothers are continuously at work.

Even when they are relaxing they are thinking about what to cook for the next meal and how to make it a great meal loaded with goodness for their children.

They are constantly worried about the health and progress of their children.

They smile in the rain and shine.

They are managing difficult marriages and difficult jobs to bring smiles to their children’s faces.

They are always pouring from an inexhaustible cup of love.

Today on Mother’s Day, let us take some steps to empower ourselves because we cannot pour from an empty cup.

Nurture Your Body.

As a mother, we are under stress all of our waking hours, which gets no consideration from others.

We take refuge in food and seek our respite by binge-watching Netflix.

This invites weight gain and other sedentary lifestyle diseases.

Take a good look at yourself. Don’t compromise your health.

Take out one hour daily for yourself. Your body.

Instead of making excuses at every step, join a gym or yoga today.

Go for long walks. Find a workout buddy.

Eat mindfully and eat healthily.

A beautiful healthy body is an asset to you and your children will be proud of you.

‘’ The influence of a mother in the lives of her children is beyond calculation ‘’- James. E. Faust

Find a hobby

You always wanted to join a music class, you wanted to nurture a kitchen garden, you wanted to design your nightgown, you wanted to learn crocheting…

There is always a lingering feeling, you have forgotten something. Girls, it is you. Your dreams.

I do Photography as a hobby. I love gardening. I love to spend time in nature.

I do Photography as a hobby. I love gardening. I love to spend time in nature. I blog.

What was that you always wanted to do just for yourself?

Here are some hobby ideas to get you started.

Crocheting, painting, designing clothes for yourself, baking a cake just for your delight, going on solo travel,

Start a dance class, grow microgreens.

Your children will love to see you growing. They will feel relieved to see that you are on your own.

My Mom is a retired Govt. Officer, now she spends her free time nurturing plants in her yard.

I was surprised to see the huge bundles of plantain leaves, plantains, and kilos of nutmeg she is selling.

She finds a quiet joy and satisfaction with her produce.

Nurture your mind

You are not done yet!

You need to nurture your mind too. We cannot perceive this space. I love to think of the mind as a beautiful space where thoughts blossom. From our thoughts we create. Creativity is for all. As mothers, we need to take good care of our mind space. A good mind space gives us clarity and joy.

We need to declutter our mind space. Make it spacious and clear. I would suggest meditation as a tool for calming and cleaning mental space. You can also mindfully engage in meditative activities of your choice. Like, dancing or mindfully listening to music, reading a book of your choice, etc. You can also listen to beautiful affirmations.

I like listening to affirmations from motivational speakers like Louise Hay and Deepak Chopra before sleeping. I meditate regularly on the Black Lotus App and other streams of meditations.

Happy Mother’s Day dear lovelies! A happy mother means a happy family and so much more!

Keep Smiling!
