You Can Have a Better Day Tomorrow

Make your life better every day

How do you choose to start your day? When asked this question, most will respond pragmatically with a variation of: “I work out, shower, eat breakfast, get dressed, etc.” But that is not the intent of the question. Perhaps it is better phrased: “How do you choose to be in your day?”

You do realize you have a choice, don’t you? Yes, you can choose how you approach the day by the way you think, your attitude, and those other things that make us human beings — feelings and emotions.

By making a conscious choice, you take control of the day ahead instead of leaving it to chance. Unfortunately, some people are so self-identified with their lifestyle that they leave the day to whatever their fickle feelings and emotions choose or demand. That is no way to live!

Choosing to be intentional

Why not begin each day differently — intentionally? Purposely intend to have a great day, and the chance you will increases dramatically. Give it a try. What would you have to lose?

Some of us have found we can control how we begin each day. We start the day with good thoughts and a positive outlook. Even better, we go to bed believing good things will happen tomorrow.

Surely you have had those evenings where you couldn’t wait to wake up and get out in the morning, excited about whatever you intend to do. Most of us know that feeling. It could be when you are about to go on vacation, start an exciting project at work, get to spend time with the one you have fallen in love with, buy a new car, and a hundred other things. What makes those special days different than others? Our outlook (attitude) is positive, and we anticipate the good that will happen, and it almost always does.

“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” Eleanor Roosevelt (1884–1962)

Practically everyone has something amazing to celebrate each day — another day of living! If you have had a near-death experience, as some of us have, you do not take this lightly. You are happy to be alive and breathing and to have those you love in your life.

Why not start each day with something uplifting, something inspirational, something that helps you be grateful for being alive! No matter what happens that day, it will be better than if you had not started it that way.

I recently came across the following quote that sums up starting each day with intentionality quite well.

“Your morning thoughts may determine your conduct for the day. Optimistic thoughts will make your day bright and productive, while pessimistic thinking will make it dull and wasteful. Face each day cheerfully, smilingly and courageously, and it will naturally follow that your work will be a real pleasure and progress will be a delightful accomplishment.” William M. Peck (1877–1930)

The only word I would change in this quote is the fourth word, “may.” From first-hand experience, I would make it “will.” The effect in my life has been that direct. When you begin each day with intentionality, you take control of your thoughts, outlook, feelings, and emotions. Sure, occasionally, you may have an off day, but they become fewer and fewer the more you practice starting your day in a way that strengthens you and helps you move into the day in a positive light.

Be intentional

I challenge you to go to bed this evening and be thankful for your life and the opportunity to live another day. When you awake, intentionally choose to be in control of your thoughts, outlook, feelings, and emotions. Be grateful. Appreciate This day of life and living. Get excited about what the day will bring forth.

“If you get up in the morning and think the future is going to be better, it is a bright day. Otherwise, it’s not.” Elon Musk (1971-present)

As you think these thoughts, do one more thing upon waking. Greet the world with a big smile! To experience the power of smiling, even a forced smile, do it now.

Smile or put a big grin on that beautiful face of yours!

Don’t worry if anyone else is looking. Just smile. If someone is looking at you, there’s a 99% chance they will smile back.

Did you know smiling, even a forced smile is good for you? When you smile, you release endorphins and other hormones that improve how your body feels head to toe. Smiling reduces your blood pressure, strengthens your immune system, and creates many other positive benefits for your mind and body.

The great thing about smiling is it costs you nothing, and you can do it anytime and almost anywhere. Think about it as exercise. It will help you become healthier and happier. We could all use more health and happiness in our lives, couldn’t we!

Final thoughts

You can be as happy as you choose to be each day. Circumstances and happenstances are beyond your control, but you maintain full control of who you are and who you choose to be each day. Regardless of what is happening. Why not choose what you know is best for you, your health, and those you love?

To live your life to the fullest, keep in mind this wisdom from one of the greatest Scottish writers of all time:

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.” Robert Louis Stevenson (1850–1894)

Are you ready for tonight and tomorrow morning? May you be filled with the joy of another day and plant some great seeds while you are at it. Why not choose to be intentional from here out. Have the best day of your life tomorrow and every day after. You deserve it!
