You Can Enjoy Your Trip
Take a full breath before you even begin

While most of us enjoy arriving at our vacation destination, the preparation and travel can be stressful. Before you even begin planning your next vacation, take a full breath. Remember that vacations have to be fun and relaxing.
Being in control of any situation can help relieve stress. Control is having the knowledge and tools to deal with any situation you may face. So, as soon as you start thinking about your next vacation, start keeping a travel journal.
You can opt for an electronic journal or a handwritten journal. Keep in mind that electronics can have their failures, so keep a printed version of your travel plans.
Start by making a list of three desirable travel destinations. If your list is short, you can narrow it down to one destination. Find out everything you can about traveling to the destination. Not the destination itself.
What modes of transportation are available? How long will it take to reach your destination with each type of transportation? Will you be crossing borders and, if so, will you need visas, and is your passport in order?
Once you’ve decided on your destination, it’s time to think about what to pack. Consider the climate and weather conditions at the time of your trip. Will you be moving from a cold to a warm climate or vice versa?
Make a list of the clothes you will need to bring. Then make a list of cosmetics, toiletries, etc. that you think you will need. Finally, make a third list of all the essentials that are not covered by your first lists.
A week before you start packing for your destination, review your lists. Drop any items that you feel are unnecessary. The less you pack, the less stress you will have.
Leave expensive or irreplaceable items at home. You’ll spend less time worrying about losing them or having them stolen.
Plan your trip well in advance. It may be more cost-effective to book your own transportation and accommodations. But think about the complexity of your vacation. If you’re going to one destination, you should be able to organize with minimal stress.
You can also find a reliable travel agency to help you. Make a note in your travel diary of all the reservations your travel agent makes on your behalf. When the stress and worry start to get to you, give them a call to make sure everything will go smoothly.
Using a travel agency gives you the added benefit of having recourse if something goes wrong during your trip. You can blame them for the mess and relax while they sort out the problems.
Arrive at your destination as relaxed as possible. Make sure you return home with good memories of your vacation.
