You Are At The Helm. Decide Your Destiny.
“Control your own destiny or someone else will.”-Jack Welch

Before we start a project we conduct research. We want to know the best way to tackle the project. Even when writing on a new platform we want to know what works. We want to know what others are doing to succeed and we want to mirror that behavior. Many of the professional self-help gurus are proponents of mentors and mirroring behavior that leads to success.
Your tomorrow doesn’t look like my tomorrow so let’s stop pretending there is a copycat cookie-cutter blueprint to success. Checking all the boxes won’t necessarily get the same results. There are too many variables that throw curves into our journeys. We are not the same.
We all can’t get away with behaving the way. Some things take talent. Some things take the inner courage and background that you may not possess. Some things take a fierce amount of passion that you do not have. You can not fake the fire it takes to illuminate the path to success. You either have it or you don’t.
You may not have what it takes.
You may not have what it takes. And that is okay. There is only one Oprah Winfrey. There is only one Bill Gates. There is only one Michael Jordan. There is only one J.K. Rowling. No one walks in the same shoes. We don’t all get the same breaks. That doesn’t mean to give up.
Reality Check
Do you enjoy creating the work you want to share with the world? If you don’t enjoy it then maybe you should look at pursuing other ventures. Successful people love their crafts and receive great satisfaction in the steps they make throughout the journey. If you’re only in the game for the rewards and hate the game then the odds of you are winning are slim to none.
Sacrifices
The success track requires sacrifices. Are you willing to make those sacrifices and for how long? Are you in it for the long haul? Are the sacrifices worth it to you? Sacrifices take a toll on us. The price of sacrificing things like quality time with family and friends can be extremely high. Are you willing to pay the price no matter what?
You Know You Best
You know yourself better than anyone. You know if you have what it takes or not. You know how much effort you are willing to put in. Take time to assess how you want your life to look and what you are willing to do to make it happen.
“Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.”-Carol Burnett
