SPIRITUAL AWAKENING
You Are *NOT* What You Think You Are
And then there is nothing.

Do you also believe in the adage, “You are what you think?”
Well, to be honest, I believed it in for many, many years. I used to think our thinking make or breaks us. It is true in so many ways.
After all, a thought, if chosen carefully, can make you anxious or at peace.
But have you ever wondered what lies deep within thoughts? Where do they arise and go back? What if there were no thoughts in the first place?
A profound understanding and curiosity are required to uncover the secret behind the thought.
Since I can remember, my thought process has been significantly different from others around me. In difficult times, all others around me would fret over things, whereas I’d wonder what to do next.
People around me thought I was determined, confident, and mentally strong.
But the fact is, I never was or am.
It was my focus that varied from others. My focus was not on what had gone wrong. It was mostly about what I could do to correct the situation.
This made me operate differently.
No doubt, thoughts, beliefs, and conditioning play a significant role in what we are and how we function.
But are we really what we think? If not, then what?
Thoughts are shallow waves and don’t define what you really are.
I was reading an article on ‘You are what you think.’
It left me wondering how I used to think the same. After all, we respond based on thoughts that fundamentally dictate our emotions and reactions.
But as I grew spiritually, I understood how shallow that belief is.
A person can work differently based on thoughts. But that does not mean they are different at the core.
We all meet people whom we like and prefer talking to. While there are some, we avoid.
But if we look in a detached manner (as a viewer), the outside behaviors are not our internal reality.
Disagree?
Okay, let us play a scenario.
Recall the last time you were upset or angry. Reflect on how outrageous you felt from within, the words you said in anger and the hateful thoughts that erupted. Look at how helpless and miserable you might have felt at that point.
Now come back to the present moment. Do you still feel the same? Right now, there may be a different emotion or even peace.
It means that emotions change as per outer conditions. Does that mean you are your emotions or reactions?
I don’t think so!
So is it okay to say there must be something beneath the waves of emotions, reactions, and thoughts?
Logically, without a base, nothing ever floats up. A foundation is required for things to drift.
Sadly most of us remain at the surface of this wavy and temporary nature of mind. We think we are these thoughts and beliefs. We don’t dare to find the secret foundation in the depths of our hearts.
As you go deep within yourself, you’ll notice an unwavering silence unaffected by any outer situation.
As you grow in that stillness, you may also observe the icebergs of emotions, thoughts, and desires floating on the surface.
When you become an observer, you realize you are NOT what you think.
‘You’ are much beyond what words can ever describe.
Honestly, I don’t have anything to say whenever I touch that stillness because all I feel is nothingness. If something comes from it, it does. And then everything gets merged back into it again.
I often enjoy and indulge in the drama of life. But after a while, that nothingness again sucks me into it. Then nothing remains separate. Even the idea of me and you dissolve.
No feeling remains. No emotions. Nothing.
I agree it is not my 100% state at every moment.
My point is that it is a state possible and accessible to each one of us.
The biggest possibility lies in each one of us. If you dare to go beyond your thoughts and question your existence, the answer can not hide for long from you.
The answer is always within you. Beyond your thoughts and emotions. Beyond your beliefs and identities. In the womb of silence.
Go into that silence. Connect with it. It does not leave you at any moment of your life. Waiting for you to recognize it.
On top of that, one bizarre thing happens as you move toward it. Now I understand the meaning of the ancient Indian saying, “If you take one step towards it, it will take 1000 steps for you.”
Because it is so true!
Once you start moving towards that stillness within you, it will rush more toward you. It is more desperate than you to let itself come to light.
Once you realize it, it will reclaim you. It will suck you into itself.
Then you no longer remain a servant of thoughts. You operate from the infinite wisdom of nothingness.
You may know nothing. You may be nothing. Yet you live 100%.
