You Are Not Out Of Ideas, You Are Tired

Learn to waste time

Photo by Tony Tran on Unsplash

The last two days have not been the best for me.

They were the ones where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed. I felt like doing nothing and that was all I did.

It made me stressed.

The next day made me realise that there was nothing to worry about.

We attract negativity when it is all around us. But then what is exciting about doing f*ck all the whole day? Just that!

Sometimes we need a break

I thought I was some kind of a robot who could write and write and write without stopping but I can’t. I have to take a break. That only makes things more interesting.

When you rest and come back you feel energised.

You feel revitalised, energetic, and happier.

What is the point of burning out if it means you can’t do anything for the next few days? Nothing.

Learn to waste time

I felt like we all have a PhD in this. But we don’t.

Sometimes you need something to escape to. A hobby that has nothing to do with what usually keeps you occupied.

Football or soccer is my perfect escape plan. I could watch match after match without getting bored.

When you let yourself go off track for a while without resistance, it works wonders.

It pulls me back on track. The irony!

We all have audacious goals, don't we? But sometimes, their pressure gets to our heads and makes us feel demotivated. Sometimes, lost.

It is a long journey, there is nothing wrong with stopping and taking a drink.

So when you feel disengaged, take a day.

Pressuring yourself, again and again, makes us ungrateful asses. I don’t like that part of me, and you probably don’t either.

You are not out of ideas, you are tired

Wash your face before you try to save the world

Only when you have handled your mess you can help others.

Writing consistently is hard. It can be exhausting, sometimes even underwhelming.

Off days create an illusion for me — that I have run out of ideas.

Then, when I wake up all well and good, the first article I read, 3 or 4 ideas pop into my head.

It is all about the mindset. The difference is obvious.

When I have everything sorted in my mind, things start coming the way that I want.

Thinking abundantly opens opportunities.

Your mind is optimistic when you are rested and energised.

I talk much about routines, I will admit it is hard to keep one.

When I sleep late, I wake up late, then the whole day is a mess for me.

The start of the day is very important. It shapes the whole of it.

Off days also come as a result of things out of your control. In that case, you have to think logically.

This is where taking a break comes in.

If you are tired and have a headache, you can’t come to a rational conclusion. You will only stress yourself even more.

Wear the suit before you attend the meeting

Position yourself in a place of abundance — not rarity.

When you do that, all the doors seem to open in front of your eyes.

Look at the bright side, there are over a gazillion articles on various topics, any one of them can give you something worth writing.

You never really run out of ideas, you run out of patience.

I don’t feel like making an effort to produce ideas, I want them to come to me effortlessly. Like some imaginary bulb lighting up over my head.

I am always waiting for that “Eureka” moment. Hollywood really messed me up.

Unfortunately, It doesn’t work like that in real life.

If you feel the same way, you are probably tired.

No one knows struggle like the person who tries to come up with an idea on a bad day.

A bad day is abysmal to me. I don’t feel like reading or writing. I don’t feel like doing anything. It is BAD!

When I try to, despite this, I end up shooting myself in the foot.

Don’t do that, take breaks, they keep you effective.

Ideas make you procrastinate

The more ideas I have the more I delay them.

Lack of ideas is not a problem, an abundance of them is. Who knew?

Lack of ideas pushes for execution. If you keep getting ideas in your head, you are inclined to delay them as they become less and less valuable.

I have 6 drafts ready right now. I thought of them after reading 2 articles. Others are written on my notes.

Recharging and coming back really makes a difference. Try it.

What is the point of an idea if you can’t act on it? Nothing.

When you feel trap(ped) take a nap

Nothing like some cheap rhymes, right?

When I feel like quitting, it is due to an overwhelm of emotions.

When I start feeling overwhelmed, I take a nap.

The feeling is different when you get up. Your head is clear and things seem different.

The trick is to shut your mind before it shuts you.

Overwhelming causes you to make stupid decisions. It clouds your judgment.

When you think you are stuck, everything seems like a trap. At the same time, thinking of opportunities the most unlikely doors open in front of you.

Pick the latter.

Takeaway

Anything you believe in is possible. It has always been that way. When you tell yourself it isn’t, something is wrong —that is when you need a break.

You don’t need to work 15 hours every day to be successful, you just have to show up every day. Hours don’t matter if you are consistent and improving.

Consistency always beats spontaneous bursts of energy.

Consistency builds improvement.

When consistency tires you, take a break. It will keep you composed. Sometimes not doing anything doesn’t break you, it makes you!

I never thought sitting on your ass the whole day did anything good. Now I do!
