You Are Missing Out by Not Strategizing Your Process
The Importance of Being Honest With Oneself.
There are a bare minimum amount of steps that are required for you to reach your goals.
For example, you won’t reach your goals of being a rockstar if you just make music and don’t take time to put yourself out there and market it.
You will just be another irrelevant musician who doesn’t know why they are failing. You’ve got to put in the work the whole way, and for this, you’ll need a strategy.
If your strategy is just to make music, then your goal better is to just make music as well.
You can’t have any expectation of being an international superstar if you’re just sitting with your music for yourself. Likewise, if you go to the gym and pick up a weight enough times you will be very specifically trained.
If this is your goal, then go ahead.
But if your goal is to get a good overall physique and be healthy, you’ve got to strategize differently to reach this goal. There are different goals within a profession that requires us to think differently.
The processes are solely dependent on the goals that we want to reach.
Depth > Breadth
No amount of going to the gym and doing biceps curls are going to get your squat to become stronger. No amount of making music and putting it on your hard drive is going to make your music go viral.
No amount of half-hearted writing and putting it out on Medium, hoping for people to see it at random will help if your goal is to become a famous writer. (This is a bad goal anyways, nobody should want to become famous for the sake of fame itself)
Try to step out of your own situation and assess it from the outside.
What would you tell a good friend that was in the same situation? For this, you’ll have to practice some self-compassion.
If you deep within do not like yourself you’re not going to come very far with this exercise.
Your self-talk will simply be too limiting. Negative self-talk has no place in a process that is ultimately about your well-being.
Realize this and then reassess how far you’ve come, where you’re at, and how far you have to go. Then take the next step.
The next step is the next step of what you’ve strategized. The strategy is up to you and is derived from your subjective goal.
This means that no strategy can compete with the strategy that you’ve made for yourself to ultimately support your growth. You know yourself best, and what works best for you.
Takeaway
Be very honest with yourself.
If you need to, create an alter-ego that has the traits and has accomplished the things you want to accomplish. Take advice from this alter-ego.
See yourself being this alter-ego, and do the things that such a persona would have done. This way you’ll have a point of reference — somewhere to go to when you feel like things are working against you.
