You Are Essential to Life

A short poem to remind you of your magnificence

You are an essential part of it all, sweet soul. The thick morning fog rising above every dew-kissed field that the cows graze upon. The chilly September air that smells surprisingly sweet with its wafts of freshly cut grass.

The gleaming sparkle in your eye as you think of a joyful memory.

All of it is life pulsating through the crevices of your being. Stop. Breathe it all out. Everything you’ve identified with. Everything you’ve been clinging to. Every worry that has plagued your soul. You can pick it all back up in a minute… if you wish. But in the meantime, life is here. Your breathing won’t stop no matter how hard you try. There is a reason for that. There is a reason you are here. You are as essential to this world as the trees that give you oxygen. They wouldn’t be here without the carbon dioxide you exhale. That is why your next inbreath is inevitable. Because you are necessary for life to experience itself in its full wonder. You are a marvel of existence. So be it.
