Yesterday was, “Happy New Year,” Katie day — with lots of giggles.
My older cousin updated me on her new apartment — and we giggled. I remembered her mother having that same giggle.
My younger cousin updated me on the music she had recorded being published — and we giggled.
I had a lovely talk with my daughter who I had to give up for adoption, and listened to video messages from her daughter. It’s like hearing myself talk and there were those giggles.
I was not raised around any of the above family, but they sound like me, laugh like me, and share many of my traits.
Foster and adopted children are often angry and report being left out and feeling out of place.
They are — my daughter felt out of place in her family. Meeting me helped her understand her parents.
It’s important that professionals not blame adopted parents when children say, “I don’t fit in.”
