How to find new opportunities

One of the main missions of my coaching business is to help people like you find new careers. They often have an idea of ​​what the next opportunity should be and how much they can make from it. They may also imagine their surroundings and work environment. Then they tend to reject anything that doesn’t align with those expectations. This is, sadly, true for most people.

The result is that progress is often hindered and the chance for success is diminished. Instead of saying “no” to employment ads and interviews, say “yes” first.

Apply to all the jobs that may be even a remote fit and take any interviews that come your way. Then, ask questions that provide detailed insight into the situation and potential opportunity.

If you’re not looking for a job, but just some more excitement or a change in your life, answer “yes” to any and every invitations that comes along. Whether it’s a chance to have lunch with friends or to go out for a walk instead of staying in the house, just do it.

Saying yes gives luck a chance to find you. If you don’t seize the opportunities, you never know what you missed. Perhaps that lunch with a friend will give you a new perspective on a pressing issue or an opportunity to meet someone important to your future.

Your opportunity is not the end of the road. it’s the beginning. If you’re always looking for reasons not to act, you never know what great adventures await. One of my mentors, Mark Horseman, said of jobs: until you get an offer, you have nothing. Don’t deny the plethora of opportunities in front of you waiting and waiting for the one that never comes.

Applying for a job, getting an interview, or discussing a move is very different than having to make the decision to act on an offer. Receive the offer first, then decide whether to accept or reject. You can’t have the best time of your life if you don’t invest even a little bit of time in moving forward.

My philosophy is to always answer ‘yes’. If you see an opportunity, raise your hand and say yes, I’ll give it a shot. Because if you don’t accept the challenge, the answer will always be no.

Just trying will leave you better off for the experience. However, if the answer is yes, you will be given an opportunity that exceeds your expectations. So whatever it is, answer yes first and then explore the possibilities. You can always change your mind later.
