How to Enjoy Your Life More Than You Deserve: A Writing Retreat on the Edge of the Peak District

This Was Not my Week. Image Created by Author with Bing Image Creator

Sometimes, I like to Glamourise my Life

So, instead of saying that I visited my parents in a small town in Derbyshire which is in the UK Midlands, I told myself that I was taking a Writing Retreat on the Edge of the Derbyshire Peak District

And it was true. I did write a lot on those five days. I did get a lot done. And I saw my family in Derbyshire.

When I’m not at home, I don’t have the constant distractions of ordinary life. No groceries to buy, no cleaning, no cooking (Thanks Mum), none of my regular social activities to attend.

Just writing, and socialising with my Derbyshire family.

I was on the edge of the Peak District, but I didn’t do any sightseeing this time as it was raining a lot.

But just the act of stating to myself that I was on a Writing Retreat made the whole process more enjoyable.

This is Glamourising your Life.

Doing what you’re doing anyway, but thinking about it in a more glamorous fashion, is a mental trick that can actually increase your enjoyment levels.

Brains are stupid!

They can be tricked into giving you a better time.

Notice the Good Things in your Life

In addition, familiar things are overlooked. In reality, it was very cool that I had the resources to visit my family. I enjoyed the company. I enjoyed the change. I enjoyed the additional time to write. I enjoyed the train journey.

I hit sunset and travelled through golden hour into the endlessly moving setting sun.

Now, how glamourous is that?

Read more of my weekly and follow my list is you‘d like more of the same.

Tagging Experiment

Here’s a list of people who commented on my stories last week. Why am I tagging them?

  • To thank them for interacting
  • To encourage more views on their stories from other readers.
