Do I Balance or Do I Juggle?

This week we are going to deal with four aspects of our lives. The ideal life some say is to have a balance of all aspects of our lives, but for many that is just a dream. When I was a teacher, I put in long hours so my students would benefit. I put my career ahead of other parts of my life and consequently my life took the path it did. I am not complaining, just being factual. All that I did made me who I am today. I am pretty proud of that person. Money and I are still trying to figure it out. When I started teaching, I earned little and had to be extremely careful where and when I spent money. This programmed me to think this way and many see me with what I have and think I spend freely, but it is not the case. I am working on it but often still feel like that poor teacher I was over forty years ago. Some people need to be somewhere fifteen minutes before time to not feel late, others if they make it at all feel as though they did their job. Some look at time as a tool while others an hourglass pouring out sand. I know people that have the philosophy work hard and play harder. Doing a full-time job during the week and having adventures such as mountain climbing once or twice a month on weekends. Many do not see that as relaxation. The idea of ‘I can sleep and relax while I am in the grave’ fits some and others seek a relaxed stress free existence.

This week’s prompts are on these four important aspects of our lives. I would like you to think about your relationship with each. Has it changed over time, and if so how has it changed? How important is this aspect of your life in regards to your identity? How much of this portion of your life consumes your life and are you happy with that? Do you see this portion of your life as a positive or negative and why? These are just a few questions to start the thinking process. Feel free to delve into some or all of these or ones that you come up with.

Without further fanfare, the four prompts are:

1) What is your relationship with money?

2) What is your relationship with work?

3) What is your relationship with time?

4) What is your relationship with relaxation?

Bonus Prompt: These four aspects are part of most people’s lives. Tell how you would structure your life to have the best work-life balance regarding these four parts of it.

Peace be with you
