Summary

The author expresses a desire to have various birds as pets, including lorikeets, cockatoos, and penguins, and reflects on the joy and imagination these birds inspire.

Abstract

The article titled "Kinds of Pets I Want to Have: A Bird Version" delves into the author's longing for different bird species as pets, focusing on the beauty and unique characteristics of lorikeets, cockatoos, and penguins. The author reminisces about previous experiences with budgies and imagines the delightful interactions with these birds, such as a cockatoo greeting with a "Hi" or the amusing antics of penguins. While acknowledging the impracticality of keeping some of these birds, like penguins, as household pets, the author cherishes the freedom to imagine and write about them. The piece also introduces the author's "Writing Prompts & Tips" web application, which is available for free and was inspired by the prompt about desired pets.

  • Penguins, while not practical as pets, captivate the author with their endearing behavior and impressive swimming abilities.
  • The author values the imaginative freedom that comes with contemplating these birds as pets, despite the reality that some, like penguins, are not suited for domestic life.
  • The article concludes with a personal connection, promoting the author's own "Writing Prompts & Tips" app, which was born from the same curiosity that inspired the article.

Kinds of Pets I Want to Have: A Bird Version

Beautiful birds.

Have you ever had birds at home? I had some budgies before. Budgies are adorable, but these three are different. Just beautiful. I’ll probably never have them 😊 and just think about them, and write about what if…

Lorikeet

They are so colorful. Sound so sweet sometimes and sound so funny and loud while flying over your head. They are lovely. You often see two flying together. When you only see one lorikeet on the top of a tree, crying out, you wonder if this one is calling the other one. When it was walking towards my shoes, I wanted to bring the bird home, but I didn’t.

Cockatoo

I saw white ones in from of me a few times. Their coat was silky white and just beautiful! But, there are black ones and pink ones. They are kind of huge compared to those rainbow lorikeets and other common bird pets like budgies. Like budgies, they can learn to talk.

Then, I was thinking… If they speak, that’ll be wonderful. And if it says “Hi” back to you at home or on the street when you encounter them.

Penguins

They shake their heads at what you just said.

They swing their bodies and hands while walking.

Amazing swimmers.

Then, they jump out of the water and land on the ice or field like rewinding the video, watching medalist swimmers jumping into the pool.

Oh dear, their babies are so adorable when you see them online or on TV. I can’t have them as pets — if they are flying all over the rooms, there will be droppings all over, but just thinking of them as pets and what they might do is just absolutely free to expand my imagination and write about them.

So, lorikeets, cockatoos, and penguins are the types of birds that popped into my head when I thought about those beautiful birds flying in the sky and walking on the ground.
