Writing On Purpose

Photo by Rana Sawalha on Unsplash

Looking at why and how we are writing.

“Successful writers play the game of Online Writing consciously. Unsuccessful writers play the game unconsciously — and then wonder why they aren’t succeeding.”

— Nicolas Cole in The Art and Business of Online Writing

Why and how are we writing? Let’s look at the first question. Why are you writing?

Are you writing to release your creativity or is it to make money? Maybe it’s a little of both. Do you want to be successful? Then you need to be aware of what you are writing and for what reason. It’s okay if it’s to make a living. That is part of the reason I’m writing. I want to make a living writing because I love writing, and it would be a dream job for me.

Now for the second question — how are you writing? What do I mean? How are you approaching your writing?

Are you writing as a journalist, or are you writing as a freelancer? Are you a poet? Are you a business writer? Are you a ghostwriter? Are you a self-help writer or maybe a finance writer? What’s your deal?

I’m a finance/self-help/personal experience writer. I am pragmatic and find non-fiction writing my thing. That’s my deal.

Now, after answering these questions, I think that you are more aware of why and how you're writing. Why not share it with me? I would like to know.

However, I have one other question for you. Do you want to be successful? Be aware of what, why, how, and when you are writing.

Success will not find you if you are not listening to yourself.

Thanks for reading!

Peace.
