Medium Needs Writers Connecting with Editors and Other Writers for Mutual Support

It is said that writers need to connect with other writers for mutual support, to exchange ideas, and to become better writers.

Medium represents that it is a platform that facilitates writers connecting with other writers. But I don’t see it. There is no messaging (private or otherwise) feature. There is no way to address the editors of a particular publication. Unless a Medium member gives an email address in his profile, one has no way to connect with him. Only editors, not members, can initiate a private note in a story.
I can understand that editors might not want to be open to a barrage of messages. They could at least allow a writer’s private note to them on submission. I know that one can leave a Note to the Editors in the body of the story, but that strikes me as an inelegant solution and fraught with the danger of leaving extraneous material in the story on publication.
So, this is my public notice to Medium that at least one writer would like a means to connect with other writers on Medium and with a publication’s editors. Medium needs to facilitate a back and forth between writer and editor and writer and writer. Anyone could have the power to opt-out. Anyone could have the power to block a communication once begun. Everyone who wanted to participate as a mentor would be able to do that.
I’m hoping that other Medium members feel the same. I’m hoping that people will leave comments and responses pro or con. I’m hoping that an elementary sketch of how Medium might structure such a facility and what features it might make available will develop.
On the other hand, it may be that no one else cares, and my tiny little article will go unnoticed, go unappreciated, or be under-motivating. In that case, I’ll go to my writer’s corner and sulk. I have a writer’s corner you know. It’s my favorite corner table at the Starbucks in Barnes & Noble. Only the best ‘sulkers’ hang out there. On Wednesdays, there’s a contest — who can sulk the best. I think I’ll go on Tuesday.
