Remember Your Goal is to Write
“Man’s mind once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimension.” Oliver Wendell Holmes
The hope is that the ideas of this article will stretch your mind. You will reach your potential to become a writer.
It takes action, so it is essential to get started and do what you can as often as you can. Everything from grammar to editing is available if you need additional help. You can usually find someone who has the skills to do for you what you are not able to do with being able to finish something you have written. There is no excuse for not getting started now on that writing project you want to do.
I have heard it said that someone who is competing in a race would sometimes trip on a moonbeam at the end of the race and not be the winner. Those invisible moonbeams are everywhere in our lives, so watch for them to be sure they do not trip you up on your goal to write.
Finding the trippers for you is pretty straightforward. Just look for the things that keep you from doing what you say you want to do. It is not the activity itself that is the tripper. It is the decision right before you decide to divert yourself to that activity that is the tripper.
Writer’s block is sometimes kind of elusive, but you will discover what the real underlying issue is if you are just alert. Do not become judgmental or critical. It just is what it is, and once you have uncovered it, you can do something about it.
Go easy on yourself. You did not get to the decision lightly, and it has been in hiding for many years. Once you find out what it is, you also may discover other areas of your life become more comfortable for you, and you will start doing new things in those areas too. That is the bonus of the discovery for the first area.
As a rock thrown into a pond creates a ripple effect, you will see the same ripple effect on clearing up writers blocks. Find them and start to write. You will thank yourself for allowing your words to flow.
