Writers, Are You Also Having Issues With Number of Claps on Your Story?

Don’t worry. Here’s what I found on the official page of Medium.

I’m facing this issue for a while now—the claps count are not being updated on almost all of my stories.

It was strange.

What was more strange was that if I clapped on someone else’s story and returned to see it again, my claps were not being reflected.

I read mostly from Medium app.

What the hell is happening?

Yesterday, I’d one story published and for the first time I observed that something is wrong with this clap feature.

It was stuck. It remained the same (for now it’s 101) while I frequently get the notification that someone clapped on that story.

I thought there might be some sort of problem with the app.

I viewed everything with Chrome. Same thing. Same problem.

Cleared cache memory, checked if there was any update that was pending, tried logging out and then logging in, uninstalling and reinstalling the app…

Everything...

But the issue persisted.

Same thing happened with yet another story—one that is published today. According to the stats page, this story has 6 fans but if I go to the story it’s showing me only 1 clap.

There should be atleast 6, right?

So today I thought to contact Medium Support

I visited their Help and Support page.

I clicked on “Submit a request” as it was advised in their article for raising a ticket.

But as soon as I landed to this new page, a screen with following message appeared:

“We’re currently experiencing issues showing the clap counts across all Medium stories. This is a data pipeline delay issue, and no data is being lost. The clap counts do resolve to their correct counts, and we are working on the data job. Please bear with us.”

I was finally relieved.

Is the same happening with you too? If yes, then don’t worry. It’ll get resolved soon. It’s happening maybe because they’re adding some new features like audio feature for listening to articles and hence making it unstable or buggy for sometime.
