How does Oprah Winfrey and Richard Branson maximize their business? Overachievers effectively use the time to their advantage. They make time work for them and not against them.

We are all given the same 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No one is magically given an extra hour or two. It all comes down to using your time effectively.

Today it’s easy to waste several hours on Netflix, scrolling on social media, or just playing video games.

Could you have spent that time working on your writing instead? Hmm… As Oprah or Richard run billion-dollar businesses, they don’t waste their time.

Sure they have years of experience, but they all started with nothing to create their powerhouse businesses.

The same can be said of J.K. Rowling, who wrote Harry Potter. She began writing with her child and found time to write her best-selling novel. Since her first novel, she has written other books in this series. Her book became a movie along with rides at Univeral Studios.

You could do the same in three steps.

  1. Block out your writing time — you don’t need to write five hours a day to write. You might be fine with an hour or two to put your ideas to print. This could be waking up an hour earlier or going to sleep an hour later.
  2. Manage your time — are you using your time to write or wasting it on a non-income producing activity? Ask yourself, am I currently making use of my free time?
  3. Reward yourself — once you have met your writing goal for the day, reward yourself. This could be your favorite food, drink, or catching a movie on Netflix. There is no limit, but don’t overdo it. Let me know, are you using your time effectively?
