Inspiring Words is now accepting New Writers

I’m Fleda.b and welcome to Inspiring Words. IW is now accepting new writers and I’m excited for the growth and friendships and partnerships yet to be formed.

IW will accept almost anyone, provided they follow the Guidelines below. I encourage you to become a Friend of Medium — I am. I believe strongly in supporting the platform I use to write and believe every writer should do the same.

There are requirements becoming a writer for IW. Please read to the end so that you fully understand the requirements to submit articles to IW.

How to Apply

1. Follow Inspiring Words, Inspiring Words Newsletter, and Fleda.B
2. You must have published a minimum of 10 articles.
3. To be a writer for IW, reply to this article. Also, include your Medium name and email address so I can contact you. When you do this, I will assume you want to join. I will review your Medium profile, read some of your published articles, and then notify you of the decision. You will immediately be able to submit a draft to IW.
4. I check comments (responses) daily and my goal is to add you to IW in 24 hours or less. At some future time, it may take longer because there is only one Editor (me) doing the reviewing.
5. You can be a new writer, experienced writer or wanting to be real in your writing, please join!
6. All articles must conform to Christian Principles, and be family friendly. You don’t have to write about faith. If you do, please follow the guidelines. We reserve the right to reject offensive or inappropriate content that does not align with the stated requirements.
7. All articles must be written in English.
8. Formatting. Please us the large “T” for titles, capitalize all words except conjunctions, prepositions or articles. Use the small “T” for Subtitles and only capitalize the first word with no periods at the end.
9. Paragraph Headings. Use the small “T” and only capitalize the first word. No periods at the end.
10. Quotes. When inserting quotes, do not use quotation marks. Instead, use the “ in the formatting box to create box quotes. Pull-out-quotes can be placed in a sentence, but don’t create a new heading.
11. References to God. When referring to God, please capitalize Him, He and His.

Requirements and Submission Requirements

1. Length of article. Articles can be between 300 and 1,500 words. I am the only editor so give me time to edit and publish your article.
2. Editing. I won’t do much editing. Instead, you’ll find tips on correcting grammar and punctuation below. However, if I see more than five errors, I will send the article back to you to finish editing.
3. Topics for IW. Choose your own topics but be sure they are related to Christian faith, encouragement, personal development, writing and Medium. Since we are members, we should support Medium.
4. Drafts. IW only accepts drafts.
5. AI content will not be accepted. If I read something suspicious it will be taken through an AI filter, and if AI is found, your article will not be published. I will notify you.
6. Grammar and Punctuation. I use Grammarly and Hemingway for correct grammar, making sentences shorter, and correct arrangement of words. I use it for my books and every article I write. I ask you to use these apps so that I’m not forced to spend too much time on one article. If there are too many mistakes, I will contact you to ask that you do more editing.
7. Promotions. You can promote your own books or materials. However, if an entire article consists of selling things, it will not be accepted. Same for CTA’s at the bottom of your articles.
8. Tags. Use any tags you wish to but use Inspiring Words as one of the 5. This benefits you and me as IW grows.
9. Pictures. Only two types of pictures will be accepted — pictures from Unsplash and ones you have created. Your pictures must be labeled as “Authors Image.” Horizontal pictures are preferred.
10. After You Are Accepted as a Writer please post your first Draft within thirty days of acceptance. If I don’t hear from you in that time, I will contact you. Please respond and to let me know if you would like to continue as a writer for IW or if you prefer to be removed. I know things happen that cause us not to write or to feel overwhelmed by the number of publications we are writing for. I’ve had to remove myself from a couple of very good publications after realizing they weren’t a fit for me and I was stretched too far.

What I will do

I will make every effort to publish each article as quickly as possible. However, because Inspiring Words is new, you might need to be patient with me.

If I check your article and it appears to be ready to publish, I will publish it ahead of others. Please make every effort to properly format and check your spelling and punctuation.
