Genealogy: Find Your Past is accepting new writers

We are accepting new writers! Please read our submission guidelines carefully.

Genealogy: Find Your Past is a community for people who use genealogy to connect with their ancestral past or are beginning to find their family history. We are an inclusive community of writers excited to share our stories.

This publication was born from a desire to connect with family roots. It’s a fascinating study of family history. From following the first clue, genealogy is a never-ending search for where we came from.

Our stories will appear in chronological order based on when they were published. Writers can submit previously published stories but will not appear at the top because of Medium’s algorithm. That’s out of our hands.

Guidelines are simple:

• Follow our publication. That was easy.
• We do not accept AI-created stories. We do permit the use of AI-created images.
• Stories should be 1,000 words or less. There are no punishments for exceeding the limit, but we try to keep stories short to allow visitors to our publication to discover and read more of our writers.
• Be a decent human being. Spewing hate and bullying others will lead to a permanent ban on this publication.
• Please use editing software like Grammarly, which offers a free basic program. Our editors are writers and prefer to spend more time writing than editing.
• Read and follow Medium’s guide on using images and credit each photo accordingly.
• Follow Medium’s rules.
• Writers must be a Medium member. Five bucks a month gets you in the door.
• If you’d like to be a writer for Genealogy: Find Your Past, comment on this post with your Medium handle. To avoid the bots, if this pub is unfamiliar with your work, include links to two published examples on Medium.
• If your story is a response to another writer’s post on this publication, please be kind enough to link to their story. We like to spread the word about our writers.
• We strive to offer a quick turnaround on submissions. Stories will be edited and slated for publication within 24 hours; weekends may take a bit longer.
• We do not accept clickbait articles. If you submit a story titled “How I Found My Ancestors to the Stone Age in Less Than Two Hours,” you’ll have to find another publication.
• Writers do not have to use a headline analyzer to create compelling SEO headlines, but we suggest writers try it to get their story in front of more eyes.
• Using a headline capitalization tool is highly suggested. You can find one here. Proper capitalization of headlines will save writers and editors time.
• Spam will be deleted without notice, and the writer(s) will be reported and blocked.
