Write 1,000 Articles First. Then Get Back to Me!

A seasoned writer told me back in early 2022 that in order for me to get better at writing, I had to publish 1,000 articles.

1,000? That’s crazy and I’m barely able to post 3~5 articles per day.

The goal seemed far-fetched. Something that sounded impossible and unattainable for someone like me who isn’t sure anyone would even want to read what I write.

Why 1,000 Articles specifically?

To my surprise as well, there is actual reasoning behind why hitting the 1,000 article mark matters!

You see, unless you write, you never really know your true potential as a writer. Everyone has their own writing style and there really isn’t a need to copy others in their writing.

First 100 Articles

At first, I thought it was crazy. That was until I read my number 100 article compared to my first article.

There was A MASSIVE DIFFERENCE!

From what I can see based on my work, the first 100 articles teach you how to write and make your content sellable.

Unsurprisingly, none of them actually do remarkably well but I did learn a valuable lesson about being tied down emotionally by 1 article.

I agree that we all tend to have the thought “this will be the one” kinda feeling when we post an article.

If you have written content long enough, you would know that the best contents you ever posted are usually the ones you don’t really feel much about it.

Do you agree?

Next 200 to 300

Till today, I have posted slightly more than 300 articles and the changes in my writing were remarkable!

In the 200 to 300 mark, I have furthered improved my delivery of messaging, putting in more effort in creating a story to share, and making my article stand out.

The best takeaway I’ve learned at this stage is that there are more ways you can do to sell your article.

Thanks to my first 100 articles, I have learned for myself what types of “selling” of article works and I aim to write an article that is considered palatable.

My content writing income at this stage has risen from $100 per month to a constant 4-figure income. Pretty decent for me as a side hustle business.

That 1,000 Mark

I can’t wait until I’ve reached the 1,000-article mark. Throughout these 2 years of writing, I thought that writing was all about getting the message across fast.

THAT WAS WRONG!

Instead, what I’ve learned is that starting a writing business is all about maintaining the quality of work while constantly aiming to improve and be in on the current trend.

If you are looking to build a business with writing, trust me when I say that you will probably not have much success in your first 100 articles, probably not even in your 200s and 300s.

But I can guarantee you that you would probably learn a great deal on how to write, market, and build a strong audience when you have reached the 1,000 article mark.
