Wouldn’t you like to live in a town that looks like this today?

Schools in my Alabama county are closed today for Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, and if you didn’t know it was a holiday, you might guess it from all the decorations.
The Carnival season begins on Jan. 6 or Twelfth Night. And by Lundi Gras or Fat Monday, my town abounds with decorations in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and gold: wreaths on doors, ribbon-wrapped mailboxes, store windows festooned with masks, beads, and fleur-de-lis.
